Why would the state legislative want to abdicate, not their vote, but the people's vote, the very same ones that elected them?

You mean "if the majority are Dems, why would they want to discount the Republican votes in their states?" Think urban vs. suburban and rural for starters. You might also want to think in terms of the Dems' ongoing push to have illegals counted in the census for purposes of congressional seats aaaaaaaannddd.....electoral votes.

Not at all what I meant. If you toss all your EC votes to majority national vote, then what if your state voted D and the country voted R?

The states electorate is now bound by the popular vote, what if it is completely different results from state to countrywide? Do you think a voter (of any party) wants their vote to go to someone they are diametrically opposed to?

My mistake - I thought you were asking about the state legislators' motives rather than their judgement.

I guess we are going to find out if Clark County actually did destroy the gun registration records, as they were required to after registration was no longer the law.
Interesting times.
Edit: If the state preemption of local gun laws goes away is what I was alluding to.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams

“It is just as difficult and dangerous to try to free a people that wants to remain servile as it is to try to enslave a people that wants to remain free."
-Niccolo Machiavelli

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

If we have fair, honest elections in all 50 states, he will win the popular vote. In fact, I think there's a decent chance he actually won the popular vote in 2016, subtracting the illegal vote, the dead vote and the multiple personality vote.

Yes. Voter fraud is a real thing.
California almost openly encourages illegals to vote.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
