I backed off the woodstove some, 79 inside when I got up, 75 now. Light snow outside.

chellim1I did have a bit of trouble crawling out from under the covers this morning. The comforter was just so comforting.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

BigSwede17 here this morning. Our girl Frenchie refused to take a dump outside last night, it was below freezing. She crapped in her crate

The Mrs. is having hot flashes, heat kept at 66, I don't mind it one bit

Bytestrapper189,
My wife and I are doing a month long vacation in the Tampa area. We've been cold as hell. Today the highs are supposed to be in the mid fifties. We were expecting to be tanning ourselves on the beach. Not happening, but Florida is still fun.

400mTrapper, living in Florida I’m not sure if you own a stocking cap but it is incredibly effective in the house. Of course everyone knows the benefits of wool blankets… when I was a kid my uncle gave me a thick wool blanket that’s similar to the Orange Hudson Bay wool blankets. It’s scratchy but wow is it warm.

SHOOTIN BLANKSSingle digits overnight. We set at 69* daytime and bump down to 66* overnight. The only uncomfortable part of the house is our basement family room. If you want to watch the big screen you have to layer up. Been a while since we had a winter this harsh.

SchmelbyYears ago when my parents would visit I laughed about them. I cranked up the heat for them, I'm in shorts, Tee shirt and no shoes, and they were on the couch with blankets up to their necks. Well.. now that's me. LOL I keep it about 73 or 74. 25 outside now.

How do you get it 79 when you get up?
I didn't get up to add wood so my stove was down to a few coals and it was 58 in the house when I got up. Great temperature for sleeping but a little cold getting out of bed.
No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

smlsigIt was 21 degrees when I woke up this am in the Sandhills of NC.
We’re suppose to fly out to New Orleans on Sunday and hope the weather (I.e. snow) doesn’t impact our trip…

mark60I had 36 in my part of SWFL but it was 10 where I came from so it's all good. At least the wind from yesterday calmed down.

When I get up for a potty break I usually add some wood to the stove. Back when I bought this stove it was the largest one made by Vermont Castings. Only a 2050 SF house, 6” walls, well insulated. It also helps with light winds.
I also allocate my best wood for night & colder temps.

OK that makes sense. I generally get up once to hit the bathroom and if it's in the 20's or lower sometimes go down and tend the stove while I'm up. But I actually like it cool for sleeping. Last night I slept through the night and getting down in the low teens is why it dropped to 58 inside by morning. I have a mid-size stove but my house is only 1,680'.

sourdough44Also in full disclosure, the 79 was in the main room with the stove. My bedroom is upstairs tucked away some. Bedroom temps can be regulated some with the doors open or closed.

I always try to do that too, but sometimes meet disagreement.

It hit 35 for a few minutes this afternoon, but didn't melt the snow from this morning, so the snow tonight will just add on top.
This weekend we'll be into negative numbers.

pbslingervisiting my son, we get ready to go for a walk with the grandkids in the low 40s. He hands me my old Woolrich wool coat to try on. He says he's giving it back to me, it fits me better than him anyway. It was wonderfully cozy during the walk. Nothing feels like a wool coat.

CitadelJust got a weather warning today. Calling for temps to drop severely overnight. Potential wind chill in the minus 15 range tomorrow. Gas heat. Need to get the wood burner inspected.
