I find it weird (not really) that the Ford Racing engineer said the driver felt "the car was shifting rough and was wondering if everything was working okay" Isnt that the way Ford's usually operate? LOL

A month after dropping its first teaser, Chevy has finally revealed its Nürburgring times, with the ZR1X now officially the fastest American car around the circuit.
In fact, Chevy also brought the Corvette Z06 in addition to the ZR1 and ZR1X, all three of which were driven by in-house development drivers.
The Z06 posted a time of 7:11.826, the ZR1 a time of 6:50.763, and the ZR1X a time of 6:49.275.

I watched both videos of the ZR1
Interestingly, the ZR1 did 1mph more than the ZR1X on the final straight. [199 vs 198mph]

Could be a lot of things including more weight. I realize the X is AWD so I wonder if it decouples at a certain speed.

I was thinking more is had discharged the battery & at that point is effectively a TTV8 RWD like the base ZR1.
Then the less weight & maybe different aero on the base car compared to the X.
Impressive for both, either way.

No disrespect to the development engineers who piloted these cars but I can’t help but wonder what a pro driver would do at the Ring in those beasts.

So, in watching a bit of the ZR1 and ZR1X lap videos, I notice the driver doesn't interact with the shifting. Is the GTD the same? The on-board for the GTD doesn't show the driver's hands.

***ETA*** An internet search says Dirk Muller did use the paddle shifters during the GTD's record-breaking lap.

This speaks not to the ability of the cars, but does, IMO, lend a bit more soul to the GTD lap.

Well, GM did bill both as 'hot lap' not record run attempts.
Semantics, but given how much the car seemed to be overdrive the tires [lots of tire squeal] I think a better prepped lap would drop a bit of time.

I was waiting for this video..

If you don’t know, Misha is a “Ring” specialist and has driven thousands of laps there in a variety of cars. Here he analyzes the run with the ZR1 and he believes that with an experienced pro driver the lap could be 10 seconds faster!!!
Basically the engineer doesn’t use all the track, turns in earlier than needed and brakes earlier.

Enjoy!

If you just want the lap analysis just go to the 12:00 minute mark.

Will have to watch that later. Misha is almost like the new Sabine, definitely knows his way around really well.
