Humorous but, frustrating when it's your community that get inundated with classless visitors.

In a country where coffee is everywhere and you can get a espresso for less than €2 anywhere, these clowns decided to be different... Roll Eyes

Venice fines tourists: Germans punished for making coffee near bridge
quote:
Police in Venice have fined two German tourists who were caught making coffee on the steps of the Rialto bridge.

The backpackers, aged 32 and 35, were fined a total of €950 (£853) for preparing coffee on a travel cooker. They were also asked to leave the city.

Venice has introduced a law on a series of public order offences - including picnicking at certain sites and not wearing a shirt in public spaces.

About 30 million tourists visit the city every year.

The tourists from Berlin were spotted making coffee at the foot of the Rialto Bridge - the oldest of the four bridges on the Grand Canal. They were reported to police by a passer-by.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said: "Venice must be respected and those impolite people who come here and do what they want must understand that. Thanks to the local police, they will be sanctioned and removed."

Those found flouting the rules will have their identities shared with the embassy of their home country.

Compare and contrast this with current US policy. In Venice Italy, if you make coffee in a public space you're fined and ejected from the city. In the US, you can illegally enter the country, break the law and refuse to leave, and our government not only accept the behavior but abets it. We are truly living in a bad version of the twilight zone.

Note that Italy has a HUGE migrant issue of it's own. And they have to deal with EU interference in it.

Venice has more balls than many U.S. cities, including L.A.

When I was stationed at Aviano, Venice was a short hop away and I often stayed there. I introduced myself to the local cops and they loved hanging out with me and my fellow SPs, as we always rented the same Pensione. Much vino was consumed. The Venice cops put up with very little crap. In those days, they were dealing with a real time active threat from the Red Brigade.

I once toured the Louve in a group, including a mean-tempered "ugly American" type old rich woman. She tossed her Juicy Fruit wrapper in a 2000 year old Egyptian vase. What a maroon.

Good thing they have Germany with a welcome mat and a goodie-bag of give-aways to draw them North. Roll Eyes
