I bought a beautiful higher end watch from a fellow forum member last year. I'm now of the mind that I would like to sell it.

What's the best way to go about selling it?

Honestly, it depends on how much effort you want to put into it. There are a number of resellers/places that will take it off your hands at current wholesale (for that used model) and they'll flip it at current selling prices (again, for that used model).

Without a reputation established on watch sites, you will have some trouble retailing it there yourself. And the risk of scams has pretty much scared me off of them. I wholesale mine as I mentioned. And I limit my damage in that respect buy not buying anywhere close to what I used to do. I used to run a dozen watches in and out each year. But it's such a pain and so risky, I just don't anymore at all.

As was suggested, SF Classifieds might be a good spot to try your luck. I've sold some watches here in the past, but never anything quite that nice/pricey.

As some have mentioned, here in the classified is an option.

Another option would be Chrono24. I have seen private sellers there.
I have never sold anything on their site so I have no idea what they charge or how it works.

Another option might be someone like DavidSW who is a grey market dealer. Just remember he is going to offer you a low price because he has to re sell it himself.
You could also contact our own davetruong here on the Sig Forum. At one time I think he was advertising in the classified he was buying watches and other jewelry.

One of the hazards of selling privately to someone you don't know instead of a re seller are the scam artist. You box the watch and send it they say the only got a brick instead of a watch.
They get a watch and their money back. If you insure it at least you get most of your money back.

I have heard several online places like Facebook have a market place where you can meet someone local and do a face to face deal. Just be careful I have heard of people being ripped off even doing a face to face deal.
Our local sheriff allows or at one time aloud certain types of transactions in the lobby of their sub stations.

Good Luck

As mentioned, private party luxury watch sales are rifle with scammers. You could try to sell it through eBay, Chrono24, Reddit, Facebook, or a watch forum, but the chances of getting ripped off are higher than if selling nearly any other item.

You could start by seeing if a well-established member here was interested. That's probably your best bet at getting close to full value without getting ripped off.

If there aren't any bites, then sell it to an established watch dealer, and take the hit in price in exchange for the significantly greater security. Start with Dave Truong and see what he says.

If it were me, I would list it here first with a VERY detailed description and explanation of quality/price. People here like quality firearms, quality discussion and quality watches, if you are patient and fair on price this place is a great place to buy and sell watches as well as quality firearms.

If I didn’t have any bites here after a while I would delete the listing and try my luck on chrono24. eBay is far too unfriendly towards sellers to risk it. I could tell you two recent horror stories eBay sellers I know have recently suffered.

This is an ad.

How many times do we have to go through this? Ads are not allowed outside of Classifieds.

You didn't just say "I have a nice watch I want to sell." You specified the item. Why is that? It wasn't necessary.

This is an ad.

I'm about to sell an IWC on FB Marketplace. It's been listed a while and I've been pinged by some scammers. But they were so obvious. Pro tip: anyone who uses the word "kindly" when asking you to do something is not a native English speaker. Anyway, as mentioned, you'd have a hard time on the watch forums without an established reputation and post count. FB Marketplace is good if you know how to weed out the scammers. Best bet would be to use it as a partial into a more expensive watch. There's always eBay. Better photos and description will bring more $$.

Didn't mean to make an ad. I edited the original post.

When I moved back to Arizona, we sold our Rolex watches for the down payment on our home. DavidSW was most excellent to work with. He offered a very fair price for our watches.

Anyways, I’ve had a few transactions with DavidSW over the years. I highly recommend him.

I'd contact David Troung. He buys and sells.

I sold my Rolex to David Troung for a fair price. He is obviously a reseller but was entirely fair throughout the entire transaction.

Ditto on talking to Dave Troung. I got a fair price and the entire transaction was excellent and trouble-free.

Definitely talk to Dave. While he is a business and has to make money, as a buyer, I'd feel more comfortable buying from a reputable dealer than personal ad. I have certain expectations of a dealer that I'm not sure would be reasonable for a personal ad. Nothing against you or anyone on the forum but by high end, I'm assuming you are talking thousands of dollars. That's a lot of trust there.

Another David Troung endorsement.

I'd avoid Germany in any event.
