I believe in the principle of Due Process |
Watching Neil Gorsuch, a mild-mannered good boy from Denver, become the second-most-polarizing man in Washington. Many will be interested in the lengthy article about Justice Gorsuch and the impact of his rookie year, found here. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I'm a bit encouraged over the effect Justice Scalia's departure from the court has had on Justice Thomas. He seems to have become more vocal and involved, which I believe is a very good thing. And Judge Gorsuch has been a very good choice for the court thus far. Let's hope for yet another appointment to the court in the coming year. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. Well, as with everything JAllen links to, it's worth reading, and provides information I hadn't seen. But it's notable that every one of the journalists quoted, IIRC, is a known leftist--Nina Totenberg, Linda Greenhouse, etc. Where were the comments by Ed Whelan of Scotusblog, Eugene Volokh, etc.? _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Lawyers, Guns and Money |
Which little Scalia? Scalia and his wife Maureen raised 9 little Scalia's ... enough for his own Supreme Court! The couple raised nine children, five boys and four girls. Two of the sons, Eugene Scalia and John Scalia, are attorneys. Paul Scalia is a Catholic priest, Matthew had a career in the Army, and Christopher is a writer. All four daughters, Catherine, Ann, Margaret, and Mary, have families. According to Scalia, Maureen raised all nine children "with very little assistance from me". "Some things are apparent. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The court will be a huge part of Trump’s legacy. It’s why I voted for him with confidence. Gorsuch has been a slam dunk. If we can hold the senate, I see good times ahead for any originalist/textualists like myself.
