(CNN)House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with .08% blood alcohol level or higher causing injury, according to a news release from the Napa County District Attorney's Office.
Paul Pelosi, 82, was arrested on May 28 after having been involved in a nighttime collision. Pelosi had been attempting to cross SR-29 when his 2021 Porsche was hit by a 2014 Jeep traveling northbound on the road, according to a collision report from the California Highway Patrol. The vehicles "sustained major collision damage," according to a criminal complaint. According to the release, the punishment for the misdemeanor charges "includes up to five years of probation, a minimum of five days in jail, installation of an ignition interlock device, fines and fees, completion of a court ordered drinking driver class and other terms." The House speaker's office referred an inquiry to her husband's spokesperson, who declined to comment. Pelosi completed sobriety tests at the time of the incident "showing signs of impairment," according to a criminal complaint. The criminal complaint noted that California Highway Patrol determined Pelosi "was the proximate cause of the collision." "Based upon the extent of the injuries suffered by the victim, the District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges" against Pelosi, the district attorney's office's Thursday news release said. Paul Pelosi, a native of San Francisco, has been married to Nancy Pelosi since 1963. The two have five children.

Nancy Pelosi’s Husband Enters Plea in DUI Case Following Car Crash
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband, Paul Pelosi, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to DUI charges after allegedly crashing his car in California.
His attorney, Amanda Bevins, entered the plea to two counts related to a May 2022 DUI arrest. Paul Pelosi did not attend the arraignment, according to reporters on the scene.
Amy McLeod, a deputy district attorney in California’s Napa County, was in court for the prosecution, those reporters said.
Paul Pelosi, 82, will remain free on his own recognizance after the arraignment. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 23 at 9 a.m. local time.

I’ll still be surprised if this case goes to trial. Somehow a “procedural error” will be found but I hope to be wrong.

I was on the jury for a criminal DUI case that Judge Monique Langhorne presided over. She was only recently elected to a judge position in 2020, most of her background is in family services and domestic issues as a court commissioner for the county, before that she was a deputy DA for six years.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, dodged jail time in a plea agreement following his May DUI arrest.
Pelosi pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and causing injury on Tuesday, for which he technically received five days in jail - except that Judge Joseph Solga, a Gavin Newsom appointee, gave Pelosi credit for two days of actual time served and two days for 'conduct' credits.
The remaining day will be covered by an 8-hour work program.
Pelosi - who allegedly had a drug in his system and addressed officers with slurred speech before trying to slide them a 'police courtesy card' - will also have to participate in a 90-day drunk driving program, install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle(s), pay restitution of $1,700, and will be on probation for three years.

That is about normal for a first time DUI, Congresswife or not. It hasn't gone away. He plead guilty. I don't know if that will be dismissed if he successfully finishes all the conditions, or if they have a different procedural mechanism in California.
No jail time, interlocks, go to "never drive drunk again" class, probation, and a fine/restitution is normal for a first DUI. It is what you and I would get.
But it isn't nothing, and it isn't hard predict that outcome for a first offense.

Not sure what the statutes say in CA re 1st DUI, but that isn't completely scot-free. Every state is different, of course, but is this atypical? The interlock would suck, but it's not like he isn't loaded and can't just get someone to drive him around.

I am no Pelosi fan. If there was a previous arrest, it would be all over the news, and it would be easy to find, so find it and post it instead of speculating.
I found no report of a previous DUI, although the New York Post reported his brother was killed in a wreck decades ago when he flipped a car. That report said nothing about alcohol. The Post loves that stuff, so if there was more dirt, I'd bet it would have been reported.

First time offense, no injuries, etc. He got the same deal any other wealthy person with competent counsel would have gotten. There's no conspiracy or special treatment aside from rich man's justice.

Doesn't really matter if it "goes away" after doing his BS penance or not. I hope the other driver has already fired up the civil lawsuit against this POS. The other driver should be able to score a really nice payday now that Paulie P has plead guilty to drunk driving and causing the accident.

Not sure what you're talking about. He got more than most people i know with a dui, if this is his first offense.
The fact is, everyone at the beginning of this who said this would all just go away were dead wrong.
