Just Minute Rice, eggs, ham and green onions with a tiny bit of olive oil for non stick. Soy sauce to taste. Pretty quick and easy but tastes good.

I keep meaning to try MarsAttcks recipe but I don’t have a wok and this is tasty enough.

Would this then, maybe, be called dirty rice? Not that there's anything wrong w/ that.

If you happen to find some of this in your area, slice a few up and fry them in the mix.

I like that but I think it's an acquired taste. Also, for those trying it out, use thin slices.

I prefer my fried rice plain with just salt and garlic. Next step would be mixing in eggs and chinese sausage.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." We do it with Spam, peas, carrots, chopped onion, eggs, Sesame oil, and Chinese rice which clumps up unlike western rice. The rice is prepared in a rice cooker separately from the rest, then stirred in. The peas and carrots are just frozen stuff we buy at Walmart, nothing special.

Over the years my girlfriend acquired some unusual kitchen gear, including the rice cooker and a special slicer that does a can of Spam in about 20 seconds, length and width, so I just have to dice it. The cats love it when I do that part! Cool

The meal is extra tasty when Vidalia onions are in season!

My family and I were stationed in Japan for 3 years, 1976-1978.

My wife, who was a good cook to start with, REALLY got into some Asian/Japanese cooking.

Egg Drop Soup, Boneless Fried Chicken, Bean Yams, Egg Rolls and...yup...Fried Rice.

I still reap the benefits of this on a regular basis. Bean Yams not so much as they're labor intensive, but everything else at least once a month and Fried Rice almost weekly as it's quick and easy to make.

When we butcher chickens, some of the trimmings are packaged as "stir fry", but ham comes a close second. Rarely, when shrimp are A) in season and B) priced even remotely reasonably, we'll have shrimp fried rice.

Edit to add: Fool-proof way to cook rice without special equipment...casserole dish. One cup of rice, two cups of water, cover, pop into the oven, 20 minutes @ (I think) 375° and voila! perfect rice.

I’ve done the spam thing with rice like that. Made it with minced onion, peppers, tomato, seasoning and it turned out nice.
