I'm proud to say that on May 6 my daughter will graduate from Berry with a B.S. in Organic Chemistry. 4.0 GPA. While at Berry she traveled to Puerto Rico and San Diego to present white papers on her research. After Berry, she will attend NC State Chapel Hill to pursue her graduate degree in Chemistry. She wants to continue to do research after graduation. Her decision to attend Berry was a good one. She enjoyed the college and has made lifelong friends there. Four years seems to have flow by. I remember you post. We were living in Georgia at the time. It sure does not seem like 4 years have gone by. Congrats Dad. What type of research is she considering? My oldest has dual degrees in Bio-Chemistry and Food Science as well as graduate degrees and a PHD in Food Science. She is currently working as a Sr. Research Chemist.

I don't know what research she is currently doing. At one point this year she stopped 2 years of research because someone beat her to the punch on a paper, her professor left. She had to start from scratch but I didn't ask what she was doing. I'm sure my wife can tell me. Living the Dream

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest |
From a fellow Chemist, good for her! I remember your original post and very happy to hear your daughter has done well. UNC Chapel Hill is a good school and a great location to spend one's graduate study years. I spent several in nearby Durham (@ Duke) and made many trips to Chapel Hill.

Congratulations and good for her! You must be proud and rightly so.

Congrats to her and to you! It sure does go by fast. Feels like just the other day we were dropping off my son at UT Knoxville. He's going to be a junior at the end of this summer. Kids are like bottle rockets. And from birth to about 16...that's just the fuse. Hug em while you got em.

As a NC resident, I suspect you mean she will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. North Carolina State University could also be an option, though is located in Raleigh, not Chapel Hill. The schools are incredible rivals, with UNC, NCSU, and Duke all within something like 30 miles of each other. Congratulations to her! Hopefully she can withstand the liberal indoctrination that is a feature of UNC’s version of education.

congrats! "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Make America Great Again |
My daughter graduated from Berry in 2021, and it was an awesome 4 years for all of us! We still go back to visit when possible, especially for the annual Martha-palooza! Sure do miss that place... _____________________________ Bill R. North Alabama

This is an important lesson in research. If it happens early enough, it can be used as motivation in future endeavors! Congratulations to you and your daughter. Berry and UNC are great schools for chemistry education.

Congratulations proud papa! We have many friends that have graduated from Berry and gone on to do amazing things. As for UNC-CH....my grandfather, mother, brother and sister-in-law all matriculated there. My brother enjoyed his time there from BS to PhD in Materials Science. Great school with a good academic reputation. A bit biased here! Go Heels!

Step by step walk the thousand mile road |
PLEASE CONGRATULATE HER FOR ME!!! I took the equivalent of a BA in Chemistry as part of my program. Organic was hellish, but a walk in a park compared to P-chem. If she took down a 4.0, she is incredibly intelligent, a hard worker, and a leader in the next generation of chemists. ETA: Father earned an MS in Sanitary Engineering (now called Environmental Engineering) at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1958. Thanks guys. She received her brains from her mother lol. I attribute her success partly from the High School she attended. It was a stem school for math and science. My degree is in Environmental Science and I believe she learned more in the high school than I did in college. Thanks again for your responses. Rich Living the Dream
