gpbst3In wall safe recommend
I would like to add a in wall safe to the master bedroom closet. I’m ok with a glorified metal cabinet. Basic out of sight out of mind security and to prevent access by kids. Floor space in the closets is getting tight.
The vline XL seems to fit my needs pretty well but is at the higher end of my price range. I would like something in the 24” length range. I’m not opposed to adding two separate smaller safes.
Flush fit between standard 2x4 construction.
I would like something that could fit a 9mm carbine pistol and the check books, credit cards and some cash

a1abdjTrue in the wall safes are horrible for a variety of reasons, but since that is your limited option, no need to go overboard.
Harbor Freight:
https://www.harborfreight.com/...wall-safe-62983.htmlBefore you punch a big hole in your wall start with the common sense stuff of looking at your layout to determine if it's obvious that there's any hvac, electric, or plumbing within that bay. If you pass that test, then start with a small hole and a flashlight. That way if you spot something you can repair the small hole easily.

Calif PhilWe recently bought an in wall SnapSafe, it's OK for what it is and the one feature that sold me was the false floor compartment. I think if someone got into it, they might not know about the little compartment on the bottom. SnapSafe is owned by Hornaday now. Made in Taiwan and $225 on Amazon.

gpbst3One thing I read about the harbor freight safe was the locking mechanism takes up a fair amount of space in the second shelf area.
I’m curious if the 9mm carbine will even fit. Otherwise it looks like a decent safe for the price

This will be a problem with any regular wall safe, and one of the reasons they are horrible. You have to stuff everything into a 4" deep design, and the bolt work and lock will take up a good portion of that. As the wall safes get taller you'll have a bit more space outboard of those items.

They generally have them on display in the store, so if you have a location near by you could always check it out in person prior to making a purchase.
