a company claiming to be contracted by United Health wants my company to provide them the following:

<snip>

What are everyone's thoughts? Should I agree to provide the info?

- Check with your parent company and United Health.
- If legit, you have no choice, if you want to remain employed with them.

Thanks! This actually turned out to be the best advice - I called UHG and they told me that 1) they had no record of the contactor, and 2) we could continue working with them without providing any information to the contactor.

I notified the contactor of this. We'll see where it goes.

Thanks again, all!

Good job.

You wouldn't have this problem if you were an illegal alien.

Requests like this don't come from out of the blue. This would be part of the agreement between the two companies as part of the negotiation. Someone in your company (contracting officer, general counsel) should know about this and set conditions within your company on what, how, when information will be released to another company.

Talk to the people who sign your paychecks--see what they have to say.

LOL, true!

To provide some additional context, we're only a 3-person company at present, so I have no HR department or policies. I'm now the boss.

I still haven't heard back from the contractor, so we'll see where that goes.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! They've been tremendous help.

Depending on what you goods and services you provide to the pharmacy it is possible this is linked to Federal Fraud, Waste, and
Abuse regulations. Anyone providing medications or services and billing to Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare, etc is required to audit all their employees and contractors for a history of illegal activity. If a person has a history of a qualifying illegal act they cannot work for the company or any of their suppliers. This would be especially true if the company has been caught before and is under a consent decree. In this case they would be EXTREMELY vigilant in doing backgrounds on employees of their suppliers and contractors.

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks!
