Peterson Rosslare Classic 03 Fishtail pipe
I first saw one of these in a tobacco store next to the Dundee Cabelas. I was taken with the rich color of the stem highlighted by the silver band and the beautiful curve. It was far more money than I had to spend at that moment, especially on a fancy smoking pipe. I looked in the Peterson catalog and found the model and saved a link to the listing. Along the way, Peterson dropped the smooth version and only offered it in the "rustic" finish.

Not to be detered, I set a Google Alert to watch if one should surface. Last week, I found the exact pipe I had been looking for on EBay. It was an "estate" pipe and didn't have the original box or cloth bag. Outside of that, exactly what I had been trying to find for a number of years now. After a bit of discussion and counteroffer between the seller and I, we agreed to a price and it showed up in the mail on Friday. It smokes perfectly and I'm really happy to have it join my fathers 1936 Kaywoodie pipe and my maternal grandfathers smoking stand in my small collection of pipes.

The pipe stand was a gift from my Dad many years ago

Going to have a lot of enjoyable hours with this one.

That’s really cool, Brad! I don’t smoke, but sure enjoy the smell of someone else’s fine tobacco pipe!

Good looking pipe, and nifty stand. I prefer straight pipes though.

Many of my pipes are pre-owned estate pipes. No break-in required!

Serious about crackers.

I'm a big fan of Peterson pipes especially their p lip system pipes. I have a smooth Rosslare classic model 03, but keeping the translucent yellow stem clean is more work. Instead of just running a pipe cleaner through, you need to scrub it with a cleaner soaked with pipe cleaning solution or alcohol. My favorite is the Mark Twain, a replica of his pipe. It feels good in the hand, has a generous bowl, and smokes great.

Very cool Brad.

The satisfaction of finding what you are/have been looking for is half the enjoyment of using or admiring what you found.

I dont smoke but I remember fondly as a kid wandering into the mall pipe/tobacco shops and looking at the pipes and lighters in the cabinets and on shelves. And the wonderful smell of the shop.

How we have changed...
