Texas Democrats leave state to try preventing vote on redrawn House map UPDATE Texas House Republicans pass redistricting map
The Governor of Massachusetts says that if Texas redistricts, Mass. will redistrict.
Only problem is there are no Republican congressional seats in Massachusetts... so redistricting can only help the Republicans.
Cool

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Texas Democrats Announce Plan to Return After Nearly 2-Week Walkout

https://newsaddicts.com/texas-...campaign=subject-349

Texas Democrats hiding out in Illinois are now making fresh demands before returning to the state Capitol, according to the Associated Press.

The lawmakers fled last week to block a Republican-led congressional redistricting vote.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Governor Greg Abbott have warned the absentee Democrats they could face arrest and removal from office if they refuse to return.

Although reports indicate the Democrats plan to return for Abbott’s second special session to vote on the GOP redistricting plan, they are now insisting on conditions: Republicans must end the current special session, and California must release its own redrawn map proposal. Both actions are expected Friday.

Judge Blocks Paxton’s Arrest Request
On Wednesday, Illinois Judge Scott Larson rejected Paxton’s request to enforce arrest warrants for the runaway state House Democrats, ruling he lacked jurisdiction to do so.

Abbott Calls Democrats Cowards
From Chicago, the Democrats have been mailing in their “demands” to Texas Republicans — a move Abbott ridiculed on X.“Come back and fight like Texans rather than running and hiding like cowards,” the governor posted, mocking them with laughing emojis.

Nearly Two Weeks on the Run
The Democrat walkout has entered its second week, stalling the GOP’s effort to redraw U.S. House maps ahead of the 2026 election.

Republicans argue the maps are necessary to reflect population changes and maintain fair representation, while Democrats continue their obstruction from out-of-state.

But there won't be a lack of jurisdiction once the chicken shit MF'ers land in TX. Arrest the cowards on the airport's tarmac, hold them in jail until House is back in session, and release them in house chambers.

Exactly what leverage do they have to impose conditions on their return?

None, which is why they chose events that were already happening on Friday. For example, it was announced earlier in the week that the special session was ending on Friday and that next week Abbott would call a new one.

In other words, political theater.

Judge expands restraining order against 'Beto' O’Rourke, adds ActBlue

https://justthenews.com/nation..._campaign=newsletter

A judge has expanded a temporary restraining order against former U.S. Rep. Robert (Beto) O’Rourke and his organization, Powered by People, as well as ActBlue and any bank or financial institution with whom they do business.

The order was issued on Saturday after Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a motion with the court on Friday requesting it to expand an initial order issued last week.

Eight days ago, a Texas district court granted a request for a temporary restraining order against O’Rourke and Powered by People, after both claimed to raise money to fund dozens of House Democrats leaving Texas, The Center Square reported. More than 50 left in protest to prevent the Texas House from conducting official business, including voting for a Congressional redistricting bill they oppose.

Paxton’s office also launched an investigation into Powered by the People and Texas Majority PAC, The Center Square reported.

The court’s initial order blocked O’Rourke and Powered by People from continuing to raise or distribute money for absconding Democrats. After the ruling, O’Rourke said the order wasn’t stopping him from raising money. The next day, he held a rally in Fort Worth, saying, “Still here, still raising and rallying to stop the steal of 5 congressional seats in Texas,” referencing the the new proposed maps that could flip up to five Democrat-held seats to Republican in the 2026 midterms.

O’Rourke also posted videos on social media of him speaking at rallies to raise money for the House Democratic cause in Kansas City and in Fort Worth. He also posted links to raise money, saying, “the gloves are off. Donate now.”

Powered by People and the Democratic PAC ActBlue continued to raise money to “fight” Texas redistricting efforts, prompting Paxton to file a motion of contempt against O’Rourke, The Center Square reported.

Late Friday, Paxton filed an amended petition requesting the court to revoke Powered by People’s charter, arguing it is “responsible for deceptively fundraising and handing out ‘Beto Bribes’ to Democrat legislators in exchange for breaking quorum.”

Paxton argues O’Rourke and the organization “have deceived donors, bought off Texas politicians, and unlawfully assisted runaway Democrats in avoiding arrest.” He asked the court to “enforce its previous TRO, throw Beto behind bars, and revoke Powered by People’s charter for its unlawful conduct. There must be consequences.”

The amended complaint claims “O’Rourke and Powered by People are directing consumers to political fundraising platforms, such as ActBlue, for the express political purpose of ‘fight[ing]’ Republicans and protecting Democratic seats from ‘corrupt republicans,’ meanwhile the funds are actually being used for lavish personal expenditures (i.e. travel on private jets, luxury hotel accommodations, and fine dining that is disconnected from, and has no legitimate purpose relating to, their legislative positions).”

It also claims the defendants engaged in unlawful and deceptive fundraising practices in Tarrant County and engaged in deceptive trade practices in the solicitation and receipt of donations. It also asks the court to approve a Notice of Lien “to immediately halt Defendants’ unlawful conduct.”

On Saturday, Judge Megan Fahey issued an expanded TRO through Sept. 5 and scheduled a hearing for a temporary injunction on Sept. 2.

“The Court finds that harm is imminent to the State, and if the Court does not issue this order, the State will be irreparably injured,” Fahey said in her ruling. “Specifically, Defendants’ fundraising conduct constitutes false, misleading, or deceptive acts under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act” and Texas business codes. “Because Defendants are raising and utilizing political contributions from Texas consumers to pay for the personal expenses of Texas legislators, in violation of Texas law. Because this conduct is unlawful and harms Texas consumers, restraining this conduct is in the public interest.”

After the ruling, Paxton said, “His fraudulent attempt to pad the pockets of the rogue cowards abandoning Texas has been stopped, and now the court has rightly frozen his ability to continue to send money outside of Texas. The cabal of Democrats who have colluded together to scam Texans and derail our Legislature will face the full force of the law, starting with Robert Francis O’Rourke.”

On Saturday, O’Rourke was involved in another rally in Austin and thanked “everyone who has joined us in this fight for Texas.” As a result of their fundraising efforts, they donated more than $1 million to the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, the Texas House Democratic Caucus, and the Mexican American Legislative Caucus during the special session, he announced.

Texas Democrats End 2-Week Walkout, Setting Up Vote On Congressional Map Favoring Republicans

https://www.zerohedge.com/poli...favoring-republicans

Texas Democrats ended a dramatic two-week walkout over congressional redistricting, clearing the way for Republicans to pass a map redrawn in their favor as soon as Aug. 20.

The state Democrats announced that they would return after California Democrats moved forward with plans to redraw their congressional map to counter any GOP gains in Texas.

On Aug. 15, Gov. Greg Abbott called a second special session as the first one ended.

“Delinquent House Democrats ran away from their responsibility to pass crucial legislation to benefit the lives of Texans,” Abbott said in a statement.

“We will not back down from this fight. That’s why I am calling them back today to finish the job.”

When the Texas House convened on Aug. 18, Speaker Dustin Burrows announced a quorum and subsequently ordered the House chamber doors locked, an action permitted under House rules.

Burrows scheduled the House to reconvene on Aug. 20, when a vote on a redrawn congressional map could take place, potentially adding five Republican seats in the next election.

Democrats, who showed up on Aug. 18 but face arrest warrants that were issued for fleeing the state, were released from the chamber in the custody of Department of Public Safety officers responsible for their return.

“We have a quorum. Now is the time for action. We will move quickly,” Burrows said.

On the local news they said they were only allowed to leave the chamber after signing a promise to appear back. Apparently one refused to sign it so she was detained in the chamber. Maybe tonight they will say if she signed it, or spent the night in the chamber.

So apparently she had to sleep in the house chambers overnight and said she will stay sleeping there. All the other Democrats tore up the promise they signed. Now 30 minutes ago there is an active shooter threat at the capitol and the public has been evacuated while Texas DPS searches the grounds. DirecTV won’t let me take a screenshot so I had to take a picture of the Democrat that had to sleep in the chambers.

So the arrest warrants that were issued are worthless.

And in true fashion she has filed a lawsuit and people are hailing her as a hero and saying she was kidnapped. Now there are planned protests.

Story link

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Texas lawmaker who slept in the House Chamber of the Texas Capitol Monday night filed a lawsuit shortly into her protest, according to online records. That lawsuit claims Rep. Nicole Collier is being illegally confined.

“Representative Collier is under restraint by virtue of the Speaker of the House’s order placing her into the custody of law enforcement prior to the Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Session,” the lawsuit says.

Collier is refusing to leave the chamber because she would need to be monitored by a Department of Public Safety escort should she do so.

Before the House adjourned Monday, House Speaker Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, ordered the doors to the chamber to be locked. He said that members needed written permission to leave the chamber. But he added an extra step for Democrats who broke quorum and had arrest warrants issued. The speaker said those members would be granted written permission to leave only after agreeing to be released into the custody of a designated Department of Public Safety officer who will ensure they return to the House on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

State Rep. Nicole Collier, D-Fort Worth, refused and was therefore not allowed to leave.

“We have a lawyer working on getting a court to enter an injunction to allow all of us to be free from DPS escorts or DPS trails,” Collier told NBC’s Ryan Chandler. “And so hopefully that’s successful, and we won’t be here too long. But I am willing, and my heart has not changed. I still believe that this is wrong, and I have no intention to stop.”

In a planned public display Tuesday afternoon, some House Democratic members tore up the permission slips required to leave the chamber, and announced they’ll join Collier in sleeping inside the chamber Tuesday night, a news release said.

“She’s a prisoner of nothing more than her own imagination,” Rep. Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) said of the lawsuit. “This is like bad Kabuki theater, I’m talking like elementary, junior high-level grade dramatic actions that we’re seeing here. That’s all there is to say, this is pure theater.”

Several years ago, members of the Texas House of Representatives fled the state to deny the House quorum to prevent voting legislation they disagreed with in a special session.

“They fled the state to escape the jurisdiction of the House, whose internal rules provide that absent members may be ‘arrested’ and their attendance ‘secured and retained,'” a 2021 Supreme Court opinion explained.

Nearly a month after leaving the state, those lawmakers sued “seeking an injunction prohibiting their arrest.”

The Supreme Court ultimately ruled against those members.

“The legal question before this Court concerns only whether the Texas Constitution gives the House of Representatives the authority to physically compel the attendance of absent members. We conclude that it does,” that ruling said.

The Texas State House on Wednesday passed a new congressional map, blasting through a Democratic roadblock

The Texas State House on Wednesday passed a new congressional map, blasting through a Democratic roadblock in a bid to bolster the GOP’s chances of holding onto the U.S. House next year.

The map passed the Republican-controlled House in a 88-52 vote, setting up a new look for the upcoming 2026 midterm elections with the addition of five Republican-leaning congressional districts in the Lone Star State.

Still, the map must make its way through the Texas State Senate before it lands on Gov. Greg Abbott's desk.

Blah, blah, blah...

Texas House Republicans pass redistricting map

https://justthenews.com/govern..._campaign=newsletter

Texas Republicans in the state House on Wednesday evening passed their controversial redistricting map, which would potentially give their party a chance for five more congressional seats in the 2026 midterms.

The move comes after the redistricting effort came to a standstill in the lower chamber earlier this month, after more than 50 Texas Democrats fled the Lone Star State to block the redistricting map from passage.

State lawmakers advanced the map to a final vote along party lines in an 88-52 split, according to The Hill. It later passed in another party-line vote, and will now move to the state Senate where it is expected to easily pass.

"PASSED THE HOUSE," the Texas House Republican Caucus posted on X. "The Big Beautiful Map will ADD 5 GOP districts to our congressional delegation - A HUGE WIN for the conservative movement in Texas!"
