Oooh, very cool! Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely be checking it out. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

I wasn't aware of this flyover, so thanks for posting it! I just mentioned this to an old flying buddy of mine who lives in the area, and he said that the practice formations they flew yesterday were impressive, so I gotta believe that today's formation will be spectacular. Hoping for clear weather and zero mechanicals for today's event!

Canceled again and will not be rescheduled: "At 10:00 AM EDT we will present a video tribute including the rarest WWII aircraft and interviews with veterans participating in the Arsenal of Democracy. Unfortunately the weather is not going to safely allow the aircraft to fly today through Washington DC airspace. Since our authorization to fly through that restricted airspace will expire today, we won't be able to reschedule the flying portion of the program. We're sorry we couldn't put on the flyover we'd planned, however we hope you enjoy the program streaming on our YouTube and Facebook pages which includes footage of the aircraft, crews, and veterans involved in the Arsenal of Democracy event. We thank you all for your support and understanding. We also would like to thank our presenting sponsors the Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation and Department of Defense. https://www.facebook.com/ww2fl...r/?ref=page_internal

In somewhat related news, I just saw on Blancolirio's youtube channel that the B-25 "Old Glory" crashed in California a few days ago. Crashed but did not burn. Weird.

That is not uncommon. It is far more common for crashed aircraft to not burn, even the ones that didn’t crash due to running out of avgas. For a few years I worked with a friend recovering crashed aircraft. A couple I flew out. One we swept the burnt up pieces into a fruit bin. The overwhelming majority we took apart, loaded on a trailer and hauled off. ETA: Having looked at an article on it and the pictures included, it looks like an off airport landing that went south when they ran into a ditch. Huge difference in survivability of an arrival at the ground under control, level, with reasonable sink rate than going straight in, spinning in, stalling in, driving straight into a mountainside.

https://www.avweb.com/aviation...-b-25-crash-landing/ I counted up the engine failures over the years, a few years ago, and it was something like 57 or 58 total. A lot of those were on radial engines, and a lot of those in R-2600's (The B25 uses R-2600's). You can see in the picture that the hottest parts of the airplane, the ignition sources, are gone: the #2 engine is missing. So long as the fuel cell isn't compromised, the airplane shouldn't burn. A lot of the older airplanes are underpowered when all engines are operating. Lose one or more, and they start downhill, especially if a prop can't be feathered.
