One of my BIL’s is very much into RC trucks and cars and has A LOT of money invested in his hobby, and when I asked him some years ago for recommendations on a quality turn-key ‘starter’ brand he thought highly of battery powered Traxxas RTR (ready to run) cars and trucks. He also suggested developing a relationship with a local hobby shop if possible (for sales, advice, help with repairs, etc.). __________ "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy."

Very dependent on budget. If Traxxas is in your budget you can’t go wrong with any of their products.

What kind of vehicle are you looking for? Are you looking for a Basher, a trail truck? A rock crawler? Do you want something that is ready to run or do you want a kit? Finally and mist importantly, what is your budget? You get exactly what you pay for with the cheap Chinese vehicles. Good brands are Axial, Traxxas, Element. A good place to shop is Amain.com

Starting out with traxxas is good. They are 40 to 70 dollars more then other comparable rc cars from the top brands like arrma, team associated and losi. Worth the extra because they have a free hotline you can call and they will trouble shoot your problems, which is a godsend the first time things don't work. You will find repair parts for them almost anywhere. There are tons of youtube vids for support and aftermarket support is outstanding. I have 2 traxxas that are over 15 years old that still have parts support. Cant say that for my losi truck. I would recommend lipo powered and for you to over see their charging and storage. Get an ammo can and keep them somewhere safe away from burnable items, like walls. nitro cars for me are more fun because its a real motor and carb, but require more maintenance and experience. They are slower then lipo though. lastly, wltoys on banggood (china) is pushing the limits between quality and cost. the wltoys 140001 or 124019 are a steal for 100 to 130 dollars. but they aren't really good on tall grass. My recommendation would be a traxxas maxx rtr as a starter. ez to drive, not too big and easy to fix. or an arrma typhon brushless. That will handle 20ft jumps of ramps, 30mph across the grass and you can compete at a local rc track. 550 + charger and batteries and your at 800 dollars easy. if that is too much then I suggest the Arrma granite 1/10 brushless rtr. Good parts support great quality and cheaper at 360 + batteries and charger. Easily do 40mph on grass and 20 or 30ft jumps. short of this your option for spending less is to go away from lipo powered and get brushed motors running on nimh batts. Less power, shorter run times and since they are budget minded the thickness on parts is less as well as things like plastic tooth servos and gears and differentials. This could be good as a starter in case he looses interest or as a means to learn to drive before exposing him to 60 or 80 mph cars. First In Last Out

Traxxas hands down. After market support best by far. Battery powered. Nitro is for the real deal hobbyists. Good luck. ______________________________ " Formally known as GotDogs "

I have a 7 year old and purchased a Traxxas Slash 4X4 and a 2WD Rustler so that we would each have one. I was worried he wouldn't be able to handle the power of the brushless Slash so I also got a 2WD Rustler thinking that would be the one for him. Traxxas models have a training mode which cuts the power in half, works fantastic. Fast forward a month into it, he drives the Slash better than me and the 2WD Rustler is kind of weak compared to it (to be fair it is a brushed motor). I would recommend the 4WD Slash VXL, tough as nails, can go over grass easily, has fantastic steering due to the 4WD, tons of power, and the stability control is great. It is not cheap but I feel that it is worth the money. I run large 2S lipo batteries in mine for longer run time (can use a 3S for more speed but is fast enough with 2S). https://traxxas.com/products/m...ectric/slash-4x4-tsm .

Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
I am also a Traxxas fan but I like the smaller VXL line and think it is a great entry point for the hobby. These things are sick fast and can take a beating. e-revo VXL This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it. -Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Joshua Painter Played by Senator Fred Thompson
