SportshooterA well mannered black lab in Houston needs a home.
My nephew had a client that moved away abandoning this black lab. He’s 5 yrs. old and has an easy going temperament. My nephew’s landlord doesn’t allow pets so we’re trying to find a good dog a new home.
The lady at the animal shelter said he would have little chance of being adopted and would be put down. They are seeing a record number of animals that have been abandoned because of the flooding in the area. Shoot me an email if interested.

That is heartbreaking. I wish I could take him.

EdmondIf it gets too close, take him to a shelter in Austin. They're a no kill city. At least he'd have more of a chance there, IMO.
Why did she think there was little chance of him being adopted?

coloradohunter44Can you posts some pics? I know hunters up north love labs, and sharing a pic with folks may be helpful in finding him a good home.

SportshooterBecause of the recent flooding, the shelters are inundated with abandoned pets. Taking care of the family in hard times doesn’t always include a pet.
I’ll get some pictures and be ready to email them. I’ve never posted pictures on SF.
I’ll also follow up on any suggestions. He won’t be put down if I can help it. Thanks

PistolriaTry these guys out. I have worked with Lab Rescue here in Florida, but would imagine this group is similar.

blows my mind. Id have my pets over my head while treading water, if necessary. It wouldn't even be a question

I agree with this. The lab rescue group here in MD/VA/DC metro area is great. My parent's current dog is a rescue the group took from a WV shelter.

bozmanWe just put down our 15-year-old female on Saturday (that was rough). My surviving dog needs a companion as he is now depressed (and so is the wife).
I wish I were in Texas as it would be a slam dunk for me (I am in Ohio).

PistolriaBest Friends has been in the Houston area helping rescue pets. They have sent quite a few dogs over to Jacksonville for foster and adoption.

Sounds like time for a sig forum relay to get this dog to a new home
I can chip in for gas money

Likewise. I'd think seriously about taking him myself if I didn't already have a house full.

I will gladly drive him from anywhere in Ky to you if we can get a Sigforum delivery chain going.

bozmanPost a picture and let me show the wife. She makes the ultimate decisions about pets.
I know she wants a female, but I don't think she would turn away a pup without a home.
I am convinced when I am gone, all of my hard-earned retirement money will be converted into a large pack of dogs

I will be watching for a picture and shoot a link to the wife as soon as it goes up.

I'll be going from Dallas/Fort Worth to MO this Sunday. I could get him from there (or even closer to Houston) to as far north as St. Louis if we can make something work.

I can watch him for awhile in St. Louis until someone can take him the next link in the chain....
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
