Apparently there was a lot more to the story than this couple posted to facebook. I think it shows classic immaturity and blaming on the part of the couple. It is entertaining to see these less than articulate wordsmiths attempt to spin their version of events

I dont care what your emergency is. I'd prefer you not to plow into me at 108mph. No excuse. Selfish, stupid people.

Agreed. No emergency is worth killing yourself or someone else trying to get to the hospital.

Maybe they need to start teaching that in driver's ed or birth classes.

As if people would listen.

This. Even emergency vehicles don't travel at this speed.

5 bucks says he bypassed at least one hospital capable of handling his wife's delivery because they wanted to get to "their" hospital.

Back in around 2004-ish, I had someone go by at 72/45. They claimed mom was in labor, and they had passed their turn by about a mile or so (uh huh...).

I called for an ambulance to respond and when it was announced there was a delay due to availability, I escorted the pair to the emergency room doors myself. After making sure mom was on a gurney and on her way into the bowels of the hospital, I scooted. If it was legit, I helped them; if it was a scam, I wrecked their day.

Well at least he put his blinkers on Roll Eyes

Actually that is a pretty stellar video. My personal favorite moment was when the police chief did his interview in all LSU gear.

Based on the looks of that police station I've got a feeling that there aren't a whole lot of hospitals in the area Wink

You're right, the closest hospital is in Alexandria which is about 5-10 minutes from where they were pulled over.

I pulled the facebook post that was shown in the news broadcast, which shows that the parents are from Colfax. They were pulled over in Pineville which is 30 minutes away from their house.

Not sure why the genius didn't think to call for an ambulance.

Yeah. For some unknown reason, people seem to think the emergency flashers is some sort of secret force field that will stop the cops from stopping you at 50mph over the limit. Hell even 20mph over the limit.

Blinkers or not, if you're going that fast, you're going to get stopped. And cited.

Interestingly, many years ago there was a thread on here that was similar. Except it was a "GULF WAR MEDIC" who stated his girlfriend was having a stroke and was rushing her to the hospital in Chattanooga. An officer stated that he observed the "medic" blow through a traffic light at a high rate of speed and nearly T bone a car. The officer pursued them to the hospital, and arrested the driver.

The thread was about 10 pages and their were many posters who were absolutely screaming that the officer was way out of control. That he didn't understand that signs of a stroke means get to the hospital NOW! That there was no way that could have happened. After all, the "medic" said he never did such a thing. The mean old police officer just didn't get it. And then the video came out from the officers cruiser and a traffic cam. The "medic" didn't just almost T bone one car in the intersection, he almost got two. And then he led them on a pretty gnarly ride passing in no passing zones, on hills and the like. Those in the thread criticizing the officer suddenly disappeared and the thread died a slow death of obscurity.

Emergency flashers aren't a secret force field. Smile

So, how long after the arrival at the hospital until the baby's birth? I bet it was quite some time.

These people were in the wrong, doing 108. The police are 100% correct.

It's amazing how some people think they are.

Their car got hooked or they got a ticket. "But I had my flashers on"
