http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017...s-teen-daughter.htmlI know...I know...while not "quite right" I can't find fault on the dad without snickering:
The father lured the man to the family's backyard by posing as his daughter online. On the day of the takedown, the teen's stepmother waited for the man in a tent in the backyard while the father and four other family members waited inside the house.
An Oklahoma dad took matters into his own hands and set up a sting operation to capture a man allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to his 15-year-old daughter, reports said.

tatortoddKind of like a DIY To Catch a Predator. Hope they had video of him stating that he was there to have sex with my daughter.
From what I've seen of To Catch a Predator, they try to back out of what they admitted to, but the video closes the door on that nonsense.

Yellow JacketIMHO I think they would have been better off to have the police conduct the sting and the takedown. I hope not, but they may be facing some civil lawsuits in the future that could get expensive.

nhtagmemberawesome story
if I recall, isn't being a child molester a felony? how about rape?
so how could a father be charged for preventing the rape of his daughter?
good on dad, he should get an award

Age of consent in Oklahoma is 16, and this story says the girl is 15. 15 and what?
Here's why I ask. Statutory rape with somebody who consents is not the same as forced rape. And if she's 15 years and 10 months old, she's only 2 months away from being legally able to consent to sexual encounters with guys of any age.
And the story mentions pictures. Did she send him any? That would be child porn, and if so she's guilty of manufacturing and distributing it.
I'm not saying the guy in this story is a victim. I'm not saying he didn't break the law. I'm not saying he isn't wrong, or scum, or even deserving of an ass beating.
But he's not the only guilty party, and it shouldn't be one sided. It takes two to tango, and the "innocent little angel" isn't an innocent little angel in all of this. So why should she skate while he catches all of the wrath?
Let's also not forget that the man didn't arrange sex with the child. He arranged it with the father pretending to be a child. This may work out legally when it's a real law enforcement operation, but I suspect will present problems with the do it yourself solution.

BBMWBig item missing from the story, what did the LE and/or the DA do with this. They say the parents turned him over to the cops. Was the guy arrested and charged? How actionable is this "sting"?
July 01, 2017, 12:18 PM
nhtagmembera1 - I agree to a certain extent
but how is this 'sting' any different than any other sting set up by a law enforcement agency to entice someone to break the law so they can be arrested and charged?
a sting operation is a sting operation, and the result is the same
not saying the kid isn't at fault, just that the guy was a perv and he was caught

I'm sure there are all sorts of legalities that the police must follow in order for these types of charges to stick. I don't believe it's as simple as getting somebody to just show up. Let's not forget the guy didn't actually do anything besides that. Dad didn't "catch him in the act".
We have no idea what the conversation was, or at this point, where daughter ended and dad began. I'm certain it will be a mess from a legal standpoint.
When Chris Hansen did the Catch A Predator shows, the police were involved from the beginning. At least in the episodes where people were actually arrested. Even then, there were plenty of claims of entrapment which resulted in the charges being dropped.
I don't think it's as black and white as catching a burglar inside your home with your TV in his hands.

bendablebeats the the hell out of me why a dozen dad's do not get together and pull a chris hansen type set up,
but instead of calling the l.e.o.'s the A Holes rapers just disappear.
maybe some people are doing this as we speak,
wouldn't be nice

Probably because they don't want to go to prison. What if Ms. Innocent told the man she was 16, 17, 18.......
How do we know the man that dad zip tied actually knew he was speaking with a 15 year old?

IcabodRead different reports and more information develops.
First
"The man was arrested and charged on complaints of unlawful communication by the use of technology, using a phone and social media to communicate with a minor."
This suggests he was the predator. Plus there's no information he didn't misrepresent himself.
As for Dad
"The father, who didn’t want us to reveal his name, said when he went to the police, they told him they couldn’t really do anything until the suspect actually showed up. So he decided he would handle it himself."
I take this as the police saying they couldn't do anything until there was physical contact. It's doubtful that they would have set up the sting.

Kudos to dad!
The audacity of his action is awe-inspiring, and his restraint once the predator was caught is admirable.
Once again, good for you, dad! Well done in every aspect!
Thanks,
Sap

Very much. When I read "I know...I know...while not "quite right" Yeah it isn't right he wasn't beat to a pulp.

Skins2881This little girl is no saint. In the video from the link. The reporter says when the dad found out the pair was to meet at the home for the first time, he took action. So she's been having a back and forth conversion (likely pictures too) with a man well over double her age for some time, and planned to meet up with him.
Great on dad for catching it at the last minute, if he hadn't daughter would have been with some guy old enough to be her father. Still an overall fail on the parents part. She shouldn't be talking to old men online or texting with them.
