We have a limited ability Time Machine that lets us see back in time already. It all depends on what you mean by time travel.

To whit:



Those films are nearing 100 years old.

In them I can see all that was visible at those space/time coordinates from the camera’s viewpoint. While I can’t manipulate objects, or change the field of view, I can play it again and again. And even more astonishing, damned near everyone of 7+ billion people can too.

How is that not a Time Machine?

And it need not be film. Google the Dead Sea Scrolls and read a few thousand years old document.

The true Time Machine is human’s ability to storm information outside of our corporeal bodies. That way we can accumulate accessible knowledge rather than have everything known die with each generation.

So we have memory that enables time travel into the past, if somewhat less than perfect. And we are all constantly slip slip slipping into the future so we are time travelers in that direction too. What else might one want?

I had a crazy dream about this once...

The time device was set to absorb anything from an adjustable radius from the center of its mass. At first it had to be suspended by chains to work.

To set a fixed point, a stone structure would have to be built with lintels that respond to a secondary harmonic of a trace signal to compensate for planetary rotation, etc...

Not sure how, but it could sense the secondary harmonic and had a tachyon particle accelerator to seek out the harmonic automatically.

The weirdest thing about the dream (as if the rest of it wasn't) was that to get it to work, I had to steal a blue Volkswagen Beetle prototype from a museum.

That, and the stone structures that resonated with the harmonics all looked like Stonehinge.

Maybe trace harmonics could be a possibility for traveling through time and ending up in the correct location?

(before anyone suggests I switch to decaf, I'm not a coffee drinker)

If you meet your younger self while time traveling, be sure not to make physical contact.

If it will ever be possible then every age has already been visited.
