I don’t usue iTunes and am always looking for a simple way to move music folders to my phone. My favorite player is VLC but it takes a lot of tries to copy the files using their Wifi option. VLC does the trick but i wish there was a simpler solution. Trying OWLfiles. Their files transfer works like a charm but the downloaded folders are not accessible inless i stick with Owlfiles. VLC doesn’t see them and i can not move them to the default Download folder. Any workarounds? 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Hey Nicky, One way I get files from my PC onto my iPad is using the free iCloud Windows app. With that installed, you can drag and drop stuff into the iCloud folder using Windows Explorer (iCloud presents like another hard drive) and then access the files from your iDevice, using the iCloud feature there. My iPad came with I think 5GB free. I upped it to 50GB for $0.99/mo but there is a lot you can do with just the free 5GB if need be. For smaller stuff, if I'm feeling lazy or am on my Android phone, I will attach the file(s) I want on the iPad to an email I send myself, and then pick up that email using the iPad and save the attachment(s) there. I despise iTunes as well. To do file transferring to a iPod before buying my first iPad, I had been known to install iTunes on my PC, do the transfer, and then uninstall it as soon as the last bit was across. That might be an option for you as well.

I use the Apple Files app, with a link to my server under Shared. Then copy 'em to the On My iPhone -> VLC directory. "America is at that awkward stage. For some obscure reason this doesn’t allow me to copy folders, only files 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Joel, Can’t have a conversation at home woth my wife’s iPhone nearby. She gets all kinds of advertising suggestions and related emails following key words. Unbearable and disgusting. She has only a couple of those media apps and uses them for work. I don’t have any of it and am a happy oyster. Have kept all my computer’s email free and only log in occasionally to Teamviewer. My PC doesn’t talk to MS, Apple or anybody else. My iPhone is “dirty”, as it has my emails and logs in to Apple now and then. For updates. VLC file transfer is all i need but wishing for something that doesn’t need so many tries and stays connected as long as i’m copying all my music media folders. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Sounds familiar. I don't listen to music via my phone or tablet. I only tested it in response to your last thread about getting music onto one's iPhone. "America is at that awkward stage. Thank you for your dedication. It’s been said over a thousand times without positive results. iTunes is a programming abomination. Should have gone the way of Netscape a lifetime ago. Guess OWLFiles ain’t so popular either. 0-0 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

You're welcome, Nicky. iTunes sucks and always has. I'd thought Apple was doing away with it. Guess not. It's ironic that I found it much easier to get music onto, and listen to it with, my Android phones. If music on my mobile devices was at all important to me, I'd have to switch back. One workaround to access the downloaded folders from Owlfiles on your phone's default Download folder is to use a file manager app. You can download a file manager app from the app store, such as ES File Explorer or File Manager & Browser, and use it to move the downloaded folders from Owlfiles to your phone's default Download folder. Or use some tools like FoneDog Phone Transfer , wondershare, etc. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Siuuu,

I've used ES File Explorer on Android, works well to access SMB and NFS shares on my server machines, The iOS version not so much, I think the TLS versions/options don't like each other, or perhaps Apple required the app to be crippled to gain access to the AppStore. The only workarounds I have discovered are to push stuff through iCloud/Dropbox/Google Drive/etc., or get them into my Library on the Mac side (via the Music application, details can be found on Apple's support site) where they automagically get copied to the Library on iOS devices when connected via USB. Even then, I am not sure that VLC will be able to access files in the Library, you may have to move them manually to an appropriate folder after they are on the phone, OWLFiles or another file manager should be able to handle that. I believe Apple makes file transfer between devices intentionally difficult so as to discourage unpaid sharing of file system objects between users.
