On talk radio, yesterday. Something about the diesel fuel crisis related, but I don't listen well.

So, the wife goes to Publix today, and there are no whole turkeys, fresh or frozen.

Eek

Should we buy gold coins? Disaster imminent?

I think this is a bird flu effect. The price of eggs has gone nuts because of it.

BJs has $1.59/lb for frozen Butterball in the 16# range - picked it up for the freezer.
Still holding out for a 20+ pound to host the family.

Just bought a nice 20lb Butterball at Aldi's today. $1.07lb. But yes thousands of turkey's and chickens were destroyed earlier this year due to the bird flu.

Our smoked turkey from Greenberg's is scheduled to be delivered on 11/22 or 11/23 Smile

Ordered it a few weeks ago.

Bought a 14# turkey today at Giant for $0.37/lb with an additional $25 purchase.

Picked up a free 20# turkey at Safeway last week with a total of $300 in purchases over the last several weeks.

No shortage of turkeys in the freezer bins.

It can’t be very scarce. The nursing home my bride is in serves turkey in some form, 3x a week. I figure it must be a cheap protein source.

A local farmer friend of mine raises them. I just put my order in for our Thanksgiving bird (will be between 16-18 lbs.). A little more expensive than the grocery store but I like to support my local farmers. On an unrelated note he also allows me to hunt his property. Smile

A turkey shortage wouldn’t bother me at all. I often make an Italian dish or fried chicken for our thanksgiving feast. Keep in mind it’s a large gathering where everyone in the family brings a dish.

I’ve had the deep fried turkey and liked it the most but overall I’m not that into eating that bird.

I bought a 20 lb bird last week, but only because we are hosting a number of our friends for Thanksgiving dinner and we will be out of town until the 22nd.

My wife used to get mad at me on thanksgiving day. She’d make all the fixings, then I’d grab a loaf of white bread and mayo!
Fried chicken for Thanksgiving? Fried Chicken thighs are Gods gift to us! Nothing better!
