Couple sells everything for sailboat. It sinks on day 2

I just finished a call with a co-worker that lives in the Tampa area. He and his twin brother have been sailing decent sized boats longer than these two idiots have been alive

He told me that before they would consider sailing around the world he would do the following:
- Spend $200,000o on a suitable boat
- Spend around a year sailing that boat in all kinds of conditions to assure they are prepared
- Meticulously plan their route and contingency plans
- When not doing the a fore mentioned sailing, pour over charts and any information they can get their hands on to be as knowledgeable as possible.
- Have a $100,000 kitty to draw from on the trip

Seems like experience has benefits before attempting a journey that can kill you.

We used to charter a sailboat from Miami Yacht Charters and take it over to the Bahamas for a week to ten days. We met a group on another boat in Bimini Harbor once that while sailing across they hit something in the Gulf Stream that rattled there boat but didn't penetrate the hull. They had a big scrape on the side of the bow. After hurricanes there can be a lot of floating debri in the water like sections of docks, pieces of piling etc.. Doesn't sound like this is the case here but I have known a couple of people who have damaged there power boats after hitting something floating just under the surface in the intercoastal waterway. I snagged a section of free floating poly line probably from an old crab pot on the keel of my J24 once.

If you check out their site, it links to a fb page -there are some very honest reviews. Including one stating that until they switched comments off on the gfm site, they weren’t getting squat. I cannot believe people are giving them money. I’m frickin amazed.
As someone mentioned, wtf were they thinking when they put a flat bottomed sailboat in the ocean. These kids are genuinely stupid or total scam artists. Wow.

Either incredibly unlucky or just tripled their investment by creating a sob story wrecking the boat they just flipped it for a $10K profit.

That's a pretty high bar!
If you can do all that then good on you.

But I assure you PLENTY of folks have cruised - me included - on far, far less that what your friend is proposing.

Old Joshua Slocum would probably never left home if he had that kind of cash available!!

And as for the two knuckle-heads who sunk their boat... They sound like complete fools. Lucky to be alive.
