We’ve been thinking about getting an adjustable bed but don’t know about them.

I’m generally a side-sleeper but it really tears up the shoulder that I lay on. However, if I try to sleep on my back I’ll choke and wake up gasping for air and, when I’m not choking, I’ll snore LOUDLY. Will an adjustable bed with the head elevated help me to sleep on my back? I’m thinking it might because I can sleep on my chair for a Sunday nap with no issues.

So what is the consensus? Adjustable good or adjustable bad?

With that snoring chocking business have you been checked for sleep apnea?

I'd sanity check that before laying out $$$$ for an adjustable bed.

I’ll just sleep on my side or in my comfy chair.

Seriously though, is sleep apnea positional?

Oh, it also doesn’t happen if I wear a mouthpiece that holds my lower jaw slightly forward. I make them out of those football player mouth guards that you heat up and form onto your teeth.

Yeah apnea can be positional and bald1 is likely right….OR maybe a turkey diner with a good dose of tryptophan. Linky Big Grin

Well then I don’t need to be diagnosed, I have it but it’s cured by side sleeping or my awesome chair.

Ok. Sleep apnea discussion complete. Thank you for the info. Big Grin Back to adjustable beds.

I would never buy one again. The split down the middle sucks. Plus I never used the adjustable feature. Can wait to replace mine. The bed itself is comfortable, just hate the gap between the two halves.

Yes, I am concerned about the split in the middle. However, they do have a non-split version but then my wife would dictate the height and 1 mm will be too much. Roll Eyes Big Grin

We have a split king, upgraded from a queen (both adjustable). Latex mattresses, both are the same brand/style/firmness.

The gap is noticeable, but not as much as I had originally feared. A slight issue for certain situations, but shifting sideways takes care of that.
Regular cuddling is not a big issue though.

I am a side sleeper, and have the head and feet elevated just enough that my spine is straight. Really takes the pressure off my knees/hips/shoulders.
She is more of a zero-G back sleeper.

This arrangement is the best we've found so far.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I highly suggest having this looked into. You and I are exactly the same. I have worn a mouthpiece for years and sleeping on my side the snoring goes away.
Though there are many other issues involved other than just snoring.

As for the adjustable bed issue We had an adjustable bed for my son and some sleeping issues he had.

It made no difference in being able to sleep on my back.

I have an adjustable bed. I prefer sleeping on my side but it hurts my shoulder too bad so I got an adjustable bed so I can raise my head and legs a bit and sleep on my back in pure comfort.

I also have sleep apnea and wear a cpap and have trouble sleeping when I have to lay on a flat bed.

Highly recommend the adjustable bed. One item of note, we have the split king version and each control our own side...you'll never spoon or cuddle again if you go this route but its worth the trade off for us.

We have a split king version and like it well. Going on 6-7 years now. The crack isn't that big of a deal.
Main use for us is when we want to watch TV or read prior to sleep. Adjust it up for comfort and when tired hit the "home" button and off to sleep.
Liked it well enough that we bought one for the "winter" residence as well.

I should mention that we don’t keep a TV in the bedroom and the only time we read is if we’ve forgotten to read our nightly Bible chapter before going up. If you didn’t watch TV or read in the bedroom would you still like the adjustable or find it useful?

Another benefit of the adjustable split is neither of us gets awakened when/if the other tosses and turns or gets up. No motion on the other side. And don't fear the crack when getting cardio exercise... easy to figure out, adapt, and overcome.

I had my patience tested... I'm negative.

We have an adjustable bed in one of the guest bedrooms upstairs. Maybe a year old. My daughter’s old room. It’s pretty comfortable for sitting up and watching TV. I haven’t slept on it yet.

So far it looks like they’re only good for doing non-bedroom things in the bedroom.

We have one (no split), it’s a king but we hardly ever use the functions. If you fall asleep with a damn thing up, ughhhh …

Probably not as I wouldn't have a real reason to adjust much given those parameters.

I didn't find it preferable for bedroom stuff. YMMV.

Wedge pillow? https://www.sleepfoundation.or...ws/best-wedge-pillow

Or sneak a 2x4” under the legs of the bed at the head end. Adjust as needed.

We have a tempurpedic that is solid and we only use the elevate position occasionally for helping with a cold/congestion. Not good for me if I end up sleeping on my side with it raised.

We have a TempurPedic mattress on an adjustable frame. We’ve wanted that mattress for a long time (after a couple of Brand X memory foam beds). I have chronic GERD and we elevate the head a bit to alleviate that and elevate the foot about half what the head is elevated. It’s nice in the morning to bring both the head and foot up to drink coffee and browse the web.
