I'm having an issue with my bedroom ceiling fan. Mine is a few years older without LED lights. Harbor Breeze Thoroughbred 52-in Matte Black ![]() It is emitting an electrical buzz/hum when I turn on the wall switch, even before the fan starts to move. The noise starts the millisecond the switch is turned on. Speeds don't matter, it still makes noise. I don't think it is the motor lubrication or out of balance fan. I feel it is some kind of electrical issue. No wall dimmer switch, just the regular on/off switch. Replaced the capacitor a few years ago. Maybe I got the wrong one, but I can't find any reading on a bad capacitor causing noise. Fan is mounted to a 1/2" box directly in to stud in the ceiling. Had this fan in the living room for awhile with no issues mounted the same way. Actually bought the same fan at Lowes and replaced the old one. The newer one made more noise and I returned it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks 1LL

1LL look under the cover where the lights would mount and see if any components attached to the wiring are rubbing on the housing.Had one doing this on a fan that had been installed for six or seven years and all of a sudden started making noises sounded like electrical buzzing. Very irritating. Greg

Thank you. I'll try that today.. I'm going to take it down and find something rubber to put between the joist and the electrical box. It seems to make less noise if I lift up on the fan and hold it out of the mount... Also going to remove the switch and wire nut the wires just to see if it changes anything.
