The aggressor squadron?

Jell-O was an instructor at TOPGUN.
The F-16N which is what he's flying, was flown by the Navy's three aggressor squadrons and TOPGUN. They were quite the hot rod with very slick fuselages and the new (at the time) GE engine.

When I saw the thread title I thought "WTF, the Navy doesn't fly F-16's!" The Aggressor angle didn't occur to me. I always thought the aggressors flew A-4's, but I guess the A-4 is probably a little outdated now. Hey, at least they aren't flying surplus MIG-23's. Wink

The first batch of F-16's the Navy received was the N-model, the idea was to mimick Soviet gen-4 fighters which the A-4 couldn't do, and to start phasing-out the older A-4s and F-5s early 90's. They flew them to the point that they literally bent the airframes so they had to be retired around mid-90's due to lots of cracking and fracturing. The Navy eventually got another batch of F-16's from the USAF about 20-years ago, C-models, and have been flying those since, along with F-5 and F-18's for adversary training.

Perhaps to eliminate reflection off of the gloss helmet coating

Our Helo pilots had desert camo coverings on their helmets incase they went down in not so friendly areas. Its a bad idea to have reflective helmets if your trying to hide.
