Policeman jumps on the hood of a car to stop it from leaving. Bet he won't make that decision again!

He should have just shot the bastard. The driver was just to stupid to be allowed to live and drive. Yeah, I'd have been a short-timer cop.

I've said it in past car shooting vehicles. If you're concerned about your life your first instinct needs to be to get out of the way.
You can not stop a car with a firearm, and you can not stop it with your body. If you can't stop the driver prior to them being in a position to make the car move, then you need to move.
Courts have ruled that placing yourself in jeopardy doesn't give you right to use force.

I know what you're saying, particularly in this case with the officer deliberately placing himself in front of the vehicle and then climbing on the hood, but putting themselves in danger is part of their job, no?

That does not strike me as having been a particularly wise move on the part of the cop

True. But you cannot create a situation and then claim self-defense.

Shoulda got the guy out first then told him about the warrant, lot of error there, including pulling a gun you cannot use, at that point the guy knows he's not shooting.

In the old days it was perfectly OK to shoot a fleeing felony suspect. With all the "risk reduction" crap the felons know they can flee, so they do.

Yep. The case was about a California trooper who, during a high speed pursuit, walked in front of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle slowed but did not stop as it approached the trooper. He then claimed he was in danger by the suspects actions and he shot the driver.

Yep. I didn't worry too much about getting killed on duty. I worried more about doing something stupid and having to live that down after everyone saw the body cam, car cam action.
