Give her a raise.

The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Don't worry. I was right with you!

I’m with you both. I try to make connections without referencing an assumed common experience.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

A few years ago, when I was working 75 miles for miles from home, I stopped in the gas station around 8:30 at night to get a drink for the ride. The clerk greeted me when I walked in.

Clerk: Good morning.

Me: Good morning.

Clerk: Well you said good morning too.

Me: Well it is morning on my planet.

Clerk: What planet do you come from?

Me: Jupiter actually. (I grew up in the town of Jupiter, Florida)

Clerk: Really, I was thinking maybe Melmac.

Me: No, I knew a guy from Melmac, one Gordon Shumway. Once he moved in with that Tanner family I haven't heard from him.

Clerk: (Excitedly) You sir are a god.

Typically when we make a hire for a software dev team we'll cut a bit of slack on a lack of certain programming skills because those can be taught. What we don't cut any slack to a candidate is personality fit. That cannot be taught. Sounds like your new hire is going to work out just fine.
