Do---or do not. There is no try. |
I don't know how many hockey fans are on SigForum, but I and two of my best friends went to the outdoor Winter Classic yesterday (New Year's Day) here in Dallas and it was a phenomenal bucket list experience. There were almost 86,000 people in the 90-year-old football stadium as the home team Dallas Stars beat thee division-rival Nashville Predators 4-2. The place rocked, and the roar each time the Stars scored was deafening. What a fabulous event.

Just for the hell of it |
That's awesome. Those events are more than just the game if the city does it right. I went to the Caps/Pens one a few years ago in Pittsburg. Lots of fun. Drove up and spent the night. Enjoyed the entire experience there. New Year celebration the night before the game. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Just checked Accuweather and it was 57F in Dallas yesterday. Did playing outdoors at that temperature affect the play? Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

It's warmer than that inside American Airlines Center where they normally play, especially deep into playoffs in spring. It wasn't windy, no rain and overcast for the most part so sun didn't cause issues. Of course unlike northern cities that have hosted the event, extra heavy duty ice freezing gear had to be used. It all came off pretty darn good, and the Stars winning in dramatic fashion capped the day. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Heard/saw that Dallas hosted a spectacular event. Hated to see the Preds lose, but everything else seemed top notch. Congrats on a job well done, Dallas! "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. The Colorado Avalanche is hosting the series at the Air Force Academy in February, however their opponent hasn't been announced yet. Sounds like a fantastically fun event and I love the concept of stepping back in time and outdoor hockey games! ...but unfortunately I won't be able to make this event.

Thanks! That's what I thought I had heard but I checked two recent articles and they both said "to be determined", which I thought was odd.

Bettman announced that Minnesota will host the 2021 Winter Classic. Opponent TBD... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. come and take it |
I flipped thru the channels and wished I was there and I am not even a hockey fan. Glad to see the old Cotton Bowl being used and sold out. I have a few SIGs.

I watched it - the most remarkable and unfortunate moment being Corey Perry's brutal elbow. Preds scored 2x on 5 minute major PP but couldn't hold the Stars down.

Very cool, such a cool experience, though I havent done an outdoor game yet but....
Well crap I have some in-law family in CO, one of which is a casual Avs fan. I have had a hard time actually watching games this year, would be awesome to go out there for this. ...Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way...

I haven't caught any games this year but the Av's got off to a great start this season and are scoring goals...I'd expect the AFA outdoor game to be both competitive and fun.

That ice was far superior to that of the late 90's Reunion Arena during playoffs. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!
