Friends- what brands does the SF brains-trust recommend in electric kettles?
Friends- I am in need of a new electric kettle to boil water for our morning tea and coffee. We had the one manufactured by Breville, but in less that a year it has died. This is the 3rd Breville unit that has died in less then a year of service each. Do you recommend a different brand of electric kettle. Something that is a reliable product, and will last longer than, maybe, 6 months?
Right now, I am using a stove-top kettle made by Le-Creuzet. It is nice, but takes way too much time in the morning when everyone is having breakfast and trying to leave for work or classes.
Thank you in advance. -Sid

I've had good luck with the Breville One-Touch Tea Maker. I've been using it daily (multiple times actually) since I got it back in 2012.

My wife and I abuse this one several times daily for the last two years.

My wife and I drink a lot of tea. We've used this Chef's Choice kettle a few times a day since 2013. It still works great. I can't say that it's better than any others since it's the first electric kettle we ever bought. We used a stovetop kettle before that. I also have no idea if the currently produced models are the same as they were 6 years ago.

Zojirushi makes the best ones but they’re also rather pricey.

I have put a lot of mileage on one of these Cuisinarts. I really like it because it has 6 preset temperature buttons to ensure you are heating the water to the right temp for the kind of tea you are making.

Well, since my Aunt is paying for this kettle, she decided to go with the Cusinart kettle that Otto Pilot recommended.
Thank you all.

Have this exact Cuisinart kettle and have been using it for a couple of years with zero probs.
Also have owned this one in the past when - worked well but was replaced but the Cuisinart when I combined my business travel residence with permanent residence.

Anything related to serving hot water or rice, this is where I look first. Made in Japan only.
Even if something supposedly works well and a good brand, I don't trust these devices to China. I may be paying extra, but it's worth the peace of mind to me. I've heard of these things and coffee makers melting down.....

Those are some awesome machines, best rice cookers too. My hot water needs are limited thus, I went with a low price but, easy to use Bodem. If you drink a lot of tea or hot water, the Zojirushi is a wise investment.
Rosewill 4.0 Liter. On sale now for $40 shipped from NewEgg. I have had this one for about 18 months but the one before that (also a Rosewill) lasted about 9 years before I got this one. The old one still works great, I just got a new one. Stainless liners. Cleaned it about once or twice a year with diluted citric acid. We do pour triple filtered water into it though. I'm guessing that makes a difference in longevity.
My wife makes tea daily, and also hot chocolate. I make instant coffee most everyday. It gets used an awful lot.
