I'm running and xfinity base upstairs. I bought a DVD streaming device for downstairs. Had trouble from the get go. Tried another DVD and it works a little better but I still have trouble streaming Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Youtube. Seems to be slightly better during the week, but forget it on the weekends. Every time I turn it on I have to re-set up the internet connection. Some times it works but still without glitches. I've tried moving the DVD. I've tried tipping the base a little. Nothing seems to solve this problem. I tried putting my laptop on to of the DVD and had no trouble with connection or WiFi. I'll entertain suggestions on how to fix this problem. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

If you’re using wifi for the link, do you have the same trouble on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands?

run speed test over WiFi and let us know the results. If you have a laptop or other computer you can plug directly into the router and run a speed test again. https://www.speedtest.net/ That will tell if its the cable connection or the WiFi. You may need your own router to connect to the connection to get a decent WiFi signal.

Comcast has had non-stop bandwidth capacity issues over the past 2 weeks throughout the country. Myself and a number of my neighbors have experienced the same issues. I call them 2-3x week when I experience these failures and secure a pro-rated credit. It adds up.

I ran the link. Ping 17. Download 30.32, and upload 5.96. This was with the laptop sitting on the DVD player not plugged into the base. I ran the link where the base is plugged into the desktop. Ping 13, download 87.03, upload 5.95. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

With those numbers my first guess is the streaming device. It takes 20 for a single stream and 50 for an average household of streams. If it's not one of the major players, that would be my first guess. Amazon Fire stick or cube, Roku, Apple TV, Google Chrome Cast. are the major players. Anything else you are into unknown territory on support.

What is a DVD streaming device? Never heard of such a thing so can't make any recommendations. Assuming what you have is a Roku or the likes it sounds like you don't have a fast enough internet connection. This could be the result of you paying for bare bones plan or that you have the device too far from the wifi access point. To test it can you connect the streaming device directly to the wired router via Ethernet to test? If that works then you know its your wifi signal. ____________________________ NRA Benefactor Life Member GOA Life Member Arizona Citizens Defense League Life Member

I have a 25ft Cat5 cable that I did plug in to no avail. Didn't work any better. I'm on my second player with the same issues. The first one didn't have the plug in on the back. Bought the second one specifically because it did have the plug on the back. Is a WiFi booster/extender worth a try? I'd like to think this is Comcast issues, but the upstairs device streams without issues. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

If it did the same thing with the Ethernet cable then wifi isn't the issue. A wifi booster isn't going to fix it. What is the speed of your internet service? ____________________________ NRA Benefactor Life Member GOA Life Member Arizona Citizens Defense League Life Member

They have? Couldn't prove it by me.
Perhaps a DVD (more likely Blu-ray) player with streaming capability? "America is at that awkward stage. I had a similar issue, changing the channel the router broadcast on fixed the issue until the transmitter on the router died, and then a new router/modem fixed the issue. __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154

You're missing the part where he said it does the same thing when not using wifi and connected with an ethernet cable. ____________________________ NRA Benefactor Life Member GOA Life Member Arizona Citizens Defense League Life Member

I have no clue. How do I find out? _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

xfinity's bottom plan is only 25 Mbps which doesn't leave you much overhead. I wonder if that is what you have? How much are you paying each month for just the internet portion of your bill? Edited to add: I just noticed that you got 30 Mbps down on your speed test. You probably have the 25 Mbps plan. That should be enough for basic streaming unless you're using your bandwidth for other things while you're trying to stream. ____________________________ NRA Benefactor Life Member GOA Life Member Arizona Citizens Defense League Life Member

Don't have a bill handy right now. The wife said we are not on the cheapest plan, but the next one up. She said it up to 70. The 30 test was my laptop sitting on the DVD player downstairs. I got north of 80 on the desktop plugged into the base upstairs. Just looked up the plans. The second to the lowest plan said 100 to 200. The wife said the plan and level we're on isn't offered anymore. She confirms what we have is up to 70. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

Having trouble following your connections. But if you are hard wired from the modem to whatever service it is a hardware issue. Not any solutions for that other than replacing hardware or waiting on a future software/ISP upgrade that may or may not happen. Even the Losers Get Lucky Sometimes

Might want to make sure the player is set up to run on Ethernet. Many do not automatically switch over when a cable is plugged in. Plug it in again and redo the network setup if you haven't tried that yet.
