I need a new fridge and I only have a 33" wide opening so I'm a bit limited. I don't want an ice maker or anything fancy, but I do want stainless finish. I'm looking at a Maytag top freezer or the Amana 22 cu bottom freezer. Any thoughts on the new Amana stuff? I know both Amana and Maytag are now owned by Whirlpool. Proverbs 28:1

I can't answer for new but I've had good luck with my Amana fridge. It's a side by side. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I have a bottom freezer Amana that’s going strong at 19 years old (knock on wood), so they used to make good ones. Amana and Maytag are both owned by Whirlpool Corp now, don’t know if that was the case when my fridge was built. I believe top-freezer units are generally more efficient, FWIW.

I too had a bottom freezer from 2002. I gave it away 6 months ago because the ice maker stopped working (which is an easy fix). It held PERFECT temperatures when I gave it away 35F fridge and -20F freezer. I believe the whirlpool stainless bottom freezer with no ice maker in the door is identical to that white Amana I had and rebadged.

We picked up one from Home Depot about a year ago and have been perfectly happy with it. Fit and finish are good and seems to be of decent quality.

Disclosure, I’m a Whirlpool employee. Amana, Iowa builds all of the bottom freezer products under the Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana name brands. It’s been years since I worked there, but the the people really cared about the products they put out. New models (just like in automotive), can be problematic. But anything that’s been in production for a couple years should be top notch and without issue. I also shot you an email with more information if you decide to go with one of those brands. Good luck.

I can top that with our Amana bottom freezer that is 27 years old. It works as well as the first day after we bought it. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird
