bendableAging and ones pain threshold
I had my gall bladder removed 14 months ago,
The anisteseologist told me that he
had to give a lot more than "usual".
He said I got the max amount.
I remember experiencing distress
and feelings of trauma but not pain.
Today I had a cyst drained and I thought I was going to pass out.
.
Am I just way fortunate that a dozen
Medical procedures were not any kind of painful.
Or
Is my pain threshold diminishing drastically?
Am I normal?

kkinaIn general, one's pain threshold increases with age. But it's a very complex issue. Maybe time to discuss with your primary care physician.

pace40My opinion...in the world of modern medicine, pain should not enter the picture, ever.

StorminNorminI have always had a strange thing with either numbing medication, pain medication, or sedation. It seems they have to give me the max they can.
The dentist has to give me lots of numbing medication.
When I had my vasectomy, I felt every single bit of it despite how much numbing med7i was given.
20 years ago before they used propofol, they could not knock me out for my 1st colonoscopy. They said they gave the max drugs and I had to endure it.
Every six months I have to have my spinal nerves burned for back pain and they always tell me how shocked they are at just how much propofol they had to give me to keep me under during the procedure.
So for me it is not a pain threshold, but some strange high tolerance I have to any type of medication. I make sure to warn any new doctors of this and to have a backup plan.

dsietsI busted my l4-l5 disk, pinched part of it off and I got Vicodin during rehab. I improved.
I got a kidney stone and got Vicodin as needed.
It was temporary and it passed.
Flash forward 20 yrs and I had severe pain in my throat, ears, and teeth from what turned out to be two broken teeth and infections. I was pacing the hallway in so much pain but was advised to take tylenol and advil, max dosages, which did not work. I sat upright in bed for weeks in so much pain. Two months!
This pain in my head was not the severity of a broken disc or kidney stone but being in my head made it almost worse.
A month later, I'm pain free for now(need root canals) and now pay more attention to our members who are in constant pain.
My heart goes out to you.
