Based on what I've heard from former State Farm policy holders, that might be A Good Thing. My last experience with State Farm was a bad one, but that was almost sixty years ago.

I have not had any problem obtaining homeowner insurance here in Florida; have received multiple competing quotes from good companies. In fact, there's one broker who keeps mailing unsolicited quotes that are quite competitive.

My experience has been very good with them for the last 35 years.

Congrats on the move and the weight loss, you've extended your life in sunny Fl because of it. My wife and I made the move a year ago after my business shut down as well, a few hours south of you.

I was worried about insurance rates before the move having read all about how expensive it was in Fl. My homeowners and car insurance is comparable to what I paid in NY so I haven't seen anything like what I've read yet. I'm told the age of your roof factors in where I'm at but the house we bought is only a couple years old and got a new roof after Milton.

I am glad you are enjoying the area

My parents are about 7-8 miles down the road in Fruitland Park, right by Lake Griffith.

They tried the snow bird thing for a couple of years and then a couple of years ago they said the heck with it, and left Columbus, OH.

I enjoy the area and have been looking for a job for the past few years. (I am looking more towards Tavares, or even up towards Ocala where I originally looked 20 years ago).

I will say there a ton of places to eat, and Shooters World is pretty interesting. I like the fact that you can go to the rotunda and handle firearms and get a feel for them without having to wait for a sales rep.

Not horrible, but a bit more than we paid in Massachusetts. We don't get much for hurricanes here in Central Florida so that helps. I pay about $1700/year for good coverage. House is worth about $900K now with pool and stuff. Dwelling coverage is $570K. I have cheaper quotes for about $1200 I'm comparing but I'd rather the better coverage.

It's a she and she absolutely is the best part. We talked about getting a dog a lot and had decided it was a no. Then we were at the World Equestrian Center for Christmas display and the rescue organization was set up there. We saw her and that was it. She has been so awesome. Great temperement, sweet and shy.

These go to eleven.

Good to hear you're enjoying life in the 'Gunshine State'...Looking at that second pic you posted, it seems the 'Cruise Life' REALLY suits you!

Any chance you're thinking about opening opening up 'Frayedends Real Estate Partners' in FL? There's DEFINITELY money to be made down there! Wink

Frayed, were you in sales for Sanofi? My wife's step-dad sold chemo drugs for them for many years before going to Pfizer about 10 years ago, then retiring recently.

There ain't much difference in the man I want to be and the man that I really am.

Funny thing is my wife was a top agent in Massachusetts. We both started taking the real estate license class down here. Plan was she would be a Villages agent and I would assist. About 1/3 into the class we hated taking it and then when we met the Fidelity lady and she said we could live until we were 92 and not run out of moeny, we said "screw it" and officially retired.

No sales for me. I started at Genzyme in Manufacturing for commercial biologics. We were bought by Sanofi about 10 years ago. I moved into Quality Assurance for Clinical Trial Manufacturing (mostly monoclonal antibodies) and later back to commercial for deviation investigations manager role (hated it and went back to QA, then got laid off).

These go to eleven.
