I've had it with those. I'm turning that stuff off on my phone. (My wife has already done so.)
Good way to kill a good idea, idiots!
Amen to that, brother. I now completely ignore them because the chances are 99.99% it's a domestic custody battle.
While I'm ranting: in CA they have Proposition 65: everything from your gas to your car to anything you bring in to your house is going to give you cancer!!! No one--I mean not even the loonies--pay any attention at all.

Edited to add: I googled her. She was born in 1958 meaning she's gonna be 60 this year, and probably too saggy to be of great interest if nekkid. Also not of interest for her political blathering.
Yeah, well..lessee a pic of you, Dick. You sure like judging females and their bodies/looks. Sorry, but it gets old.

Yep, #metoo!
I'm tired of the 3:00 AM 'Amber Alert' because of some domestic custody squabble. They screwed this up like they have the sex offender registry - made it pretty much worthless.

armoredWhen I watched the news conference from Hawaii I felt what we all see here in Chicago,NEPOTISM!
I think we will find that the person responsible for this is a relative of somebody way up the food chain of that department.
I would also NOT be shocked if it was done on purpose as a political statement.
The investigation will be interesting. I think the REAL truth will come out in civil suit.

P210It was an interesting morning out here to say the least.
Since it’s Hawaii, where nepotism prospers and ineptitude is rarely an impediment to hiring, retention or promotion, it was pretty much a given that somebody’s cousin had fucked up. At least that was our conclusion when my buddy called wondering if his phone had been hacked or had I gotten it as well.
While there were warnings sent to every cell phone and, sure enough, banner warnings were scrolling along the top of television screeens, the fact that there were no sirens going off and programming wasn’t being interrupted was a major clue that something was amiss.
We were rejoicing that it wasn’t a trading day so the markets couldn’t nosedive in panic when the “OOPS” was issued and our thoughts confirmed.

parabellumHow long from the time you received the alert, until the all clear, and did you take it seriously?

I got the Inbound Ballistic Missile message at 8:08 am and the Sorry About That one at 8:45.

FenrisIf as part of her chosen profession, a woman is going to appear naked (or nearly so) in films and TV then yes I will evaluate how well they "perform". Since appearing disrobed is not part of my job, how I appear naked is not relevant.
Now back to the issue at hand.
This moron had one job, "Don't hit the red button." Oops.

During the time between 8:08 til 8:45 did you have any indication that it was a false alarm?

Definitely. As I noted above, my cell phone had the warning and it was also scrolling across the top of TV screens, but it was odd that there was interrupton of the program on TV and no sirens sounded.
Notwithstanding those clues there was a vacume information wise for quite some time and that was naturally somewhat troubling. Still, in the end, what can you do? You have to accept what you can’t change and there’s no sense in freaking out in the meantime.
I also have some very nice wines that I would never allow to fall into zombie hands so I knew what to do if the dice indeed came up crap.

FenrisSo what is the best liquor to go with a nuclear apocalypse?
Say you have time for one last drink, what's it going to be?
I'm thinking single malt, but my wife says definitely champagne.

justjoeListening to Rush, who has an interesting take: an anti-Trumper deliberately sent this false alarm, to show everyone how close we are to nuclear war under Trump.
Hmm.
That seems somewhat plausible to me....

f2if they (hawaiians) were smart, they'd eventually turn this into a learning experience, as in what / how some were prepared for this eventuality (eventual or not) and what plans they had implemented. a thorough post analysis of the impacts that this (false) threat alarm had in infrastructure, communications, etc. while the mainstream media made fun of they guy that was lowering his kids into a storm drain, i don't really see that as funny, but maybe something that could have been survivable - as there are those that survive the deadly swath of F5 tornados.
