I just bought a "Walabot". It doesn't work with an iPhone, but I thought it might work with my Android tablet... It doesn't.

I pad $50 for it on Amazon, I'll sell it to you for $40 shipped, or offer me something in trade.

I tried it out with my wife's old Android and it worked well, but not well enough to keep her phone turned on.

If just basic Sheetrock or dry wall, a simple model at HD or Lowe’s is sufficient. Trickier though if dealing with old plaster & lathing. For the latter, I first try to locate an existing, known stud (ie based on placement of an outlet, screw locations in a cabinet, door framing) and then estimate the next logical stud. Then test with a small nail.

I have a number of stud finders and all have worked reasonably well. The one I grab for first though is a simple magnet in a plastic housing similar to bendable's. It latches on to the nails or screws and after I locate 2-3 of them on a vertical, I have yet to miss a stud. My fancy finder also locates wires and things like that, but for simple frequent usage, I like the magnet.

I have had an inexpensive Zircon brand one from one of the big box stores for 10 years. I've probably used it 50 times and never had a problem (always drywall, not plaster).

For hanging pictures, I don't think there's any reason to use one, though. Ook brand drywall hooks work great. They have them rated up to 100 pounds per hook and you can use two.

All I have ever used was a Zircon brand in a yellow housing. Worked well for me.

I've used the Franklin posted above and it works well. Don't buy this thing from Bosch, I have one and it's a POS. Completely useless.

Yep. But I have a slightly different model.

I also have a Zircon but much prefer the Franklin.
