Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us |
Friend sent me some pictures from her attic and wants to know if the fabric screening should be redone. Never seen this before and presume it was put up to keep critters out. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. That's interesting. Not the screening, but the detail between the roof and wall. Is that daylight? Cardboard looks like it's been getting wet. I'd probably fix the other issues prior to putting screen back up.

I have not been in the attic she sent these pics and I won’t be able to get there for a bit. That white you are seeing I believe is the vinyl siding that is at the peak. I am guessing the gaps act as eave venting. I did some work outside and I am pretty sure the way the house is built there are no gaps/vents in the front and back eaves though I could be wrong. I think the gap is only on that side. It is a duplex and that is the outside wall. I do not know if they are a shared attic or not. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. looks like the back of the gypsum wallboard or sheathing. and looks like that's where it is adjacent to another roof line. the brick is held up there and should be flashed to the roof. But the water is getting in along that flashing line. as for the OP, that could be bug/rodent netting or it could be mortar netting put in when they built it to catch mortar from falling in. although it doesn't look there is any mortar in it... Thank you Very little |
I would venture that the screen was/is to keep bugs, birds and varmits out of the attic.

It's always wise, before changing something, to try to understand why it is the way it is. Other than the evidence of water stains a1abdj pointed out, the screen really looks to be in good shape, except where someone purposely opened all the tops. If it were me, I'd want to know both why it was put up in the first place, and why the openings were cut.

I asked when she sent the pictures but she does not have any idea. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Someone put that up too keep out bugs/wasps. Any self respecting squirrel or raccoon would not be phased in the least about bug screen and would just push thru it.
