Staring back from the abyss |
God I miss the old days when you could pick up the phone book, dial a number, and talk to a human being! I had a flight scheduled for tomorrow that I need to cancel (yep, paid extra for the ability to do so). I am able to cancel it on their website, but they are only offering me credit rather than a refund. I'm trying to speak with a human being to get a refund instead, but it is virtually impossible. I've tried pretty much every option that Google has to offer and no joy. Does anyone have any suggestions? ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

You bought a refundable ticket? Most tickets are not refundable. Nowadays airlines allow ticket changes and cancelations without the fee, so you would be entitled to a credit for the full amount. If you didn't specifically buy a refundable ticket however, don't count on getting one. P.S. Make your life easier next time and book directly through the airline. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

Well, I thought I did. Paid additional for the ability to cancel any time. Canceling, to me, would mean getting a refund or credit. Since I have no idea when or where I'll be able to travel again, a refund makes most sense, and if I could talk to a fargin human being, perhaps I could explain that and get the refund vs. credit. Perhaps that's not possible, but a real fargin human being would be able to tell me this in about five seconds or less. Instead, nope, I get "For English, press 1".
Definitely. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

I started buying tickets exclusively through the airline itself around 25 years ago or so and will never do it any other way. Very easy to take care of business that way.

This is the number you tried? I read elsewhere that the avg wait time for them is around 45 minutes. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

If you buy through the airline you can get a refund if that’s what you bought. Since you bought through a third party I wish you luck. I doubt you will get a refund. They’ve already shipped your money offshore.

No. Not likely. Not after 24 hours from the booking date. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

If the phone system asks you to make a selection by either; 1) pushing a button OR, 2) saying your selection aloud, try speaking absolute gibberish to "confuse" the automated system until it puts you thru to a human. On many automated phone systems, yes, it really works!!

Buying through expedia and other third party vendors isn't the same as an airline issuing a refund. While most airlines are doing that right now, or moving a schedule with no questions asked, third parties and brokers like expedia are often willing to allow you to cancel and rebook with no fee for the change, or to keep your value and apply it to the next ticket (which may be more), but often are difficult to tag for a refund. I've purchased a week of hotel before, but hit the wrong date. Expedia didn't care. Use it or lose it. Part of the deal is that you usually pay less with outfits like expedia; they're selling open seats and act as brokers for the airlines, but once that seat has been sold, they're not anxious to sell it again. Cancel, and they will sell it again...but they're not queick to refund. This is what Expedia has to say about cancellations and refunds:
