Just looking at options for a new SUV and I’ve always wanted a 4Runner. I’m looking at a few options besides but the 4Runner is high on the list and with the least reviews on the new body style/engine.

Have you visited 4runners.com yet? There's an entire subsection there dedicated to the 6th-generation version. A member there known as AbbyNormal seems very happy with her 2025.

We'll be curious what you learn, and what vehicle you end up with. Smile

I quite like the updated T4R.
If/when my oldest takes the ST [she's just recently 14], a 4runner could take its place.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy almost any Toyota from a quality/reliability standpoint, but the new styles are soooooo fugly.

Ha, I really like the new body styles! I have a 2010 Tundra that's been great and will stay in the fleet.

I would definitely test drive it, but I’d also test drive other things in the class like the Passport. Drive everything.

You will get a lot of others opinions on 4Runners, myself included, but it'll come down to what you want. I have a 2012 Trail Edition that I bought used. I'm still not impressed with the front end look of the new 5th Gens, but they're growing on me. The styling of the 5th Gen is more robust and tough looking then the new 6th Gen. That is how I think a 4Runner should be. The new 6th Generation version I'm not impressed with how they look. The style is just to sleek. The 4 cylinder with an 8 speed transmission I'm intrigued with and wonder how well they will last long term. For myself, I'm sticking with the 5th Gen, because I'd not hesitate driving it off the lot and onto a trail in the woods.

If you like the size of the 4runner an alternative could be a 2023 GX460. It’s essentially the global platform Prado which was discontinued for the new GX550. I prefer the previous 460. Much more solid and a proven motor

It would be interesting to see a comparison after a few years on the longevity of the Turb-4 vs the V6 of the last several generations.

The 1GR-FE [4.0 V6] was in service in the T4R from 2003-2024

I imagine it'll be a few years before any meaningful longevity comparisons can be done.

I'm finally starting to see more of the new T4R on the road around here.
In certain colors [white] the rear looks a little odd, with the smaller taillights, but otherwise still think it looks great.

Drive a bunch of stuff, then buy what you want. My wife wanted a 4 runner, and after test driving one it went to the bottom of both of our lists for different reasons (it wasn't the 25+ though, so I have no comment on those.) After driving everything under the sun she wanted a Pathfinder, and I ended up picking up a GX460. My point isn't to push you away from the 4 runner, but that you should drive everything you can before you make a decision because you might be surprised.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
