"...not because they are easy, but because they are hard." Vice President Mike Pence said “a new era of American leadership in space has begun” as President Trump signs an executive order creating the U.S. Space Command. Pence made the comment at Kennedy Space Center in Florida Tuesday, where he explained the command will oversee all U.S. military activities in space. He also said the command will develop the space doctrine, techniques, and procedures that will enable our “war fighters” to defend our nation. His remarks came as the president directed the Pentagon to establish the Space Command as the military’s 11th unified combatant command. Pence said the administration is working with congressional leaders to have a stand up Space Force by the end of 2020. Link

Better that it is a UNIFIED (Joint) Command that will involve all of the present Services, instead of creating a totally new and separate military Service. --------------------- DJT-45/47 MAGA !!!!! That's true, but it still reeks of just more unnecessary bureaucracy, redundant leadership, potential waste of resources, etc. I support the President but I am curious as to the reasoning behind this.

Well, if anything I'd say it is a much more unique focus and skill-set requirement than even for SOCOM. A joint command makes sense to me, an entirely new branch seemed a bit much IMHO. “People have to really suffer before they can risk doing what they love.” –Chuck Palahnuik Be harder to kill: https://preparefit.ck.page

It’s different if thinking about outer space strategy is part of your responsibility rather than it’s your sole purpose of being. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

My fingers are still crossed that a separate Space Force will come to fruition. I'm an Army space enabler and would jump at the chance to switch over to an entirely new branch. I'm four years from retirement but would gladly do another 10 of I could do space ops.

The clear and present danger is cyber, not space. We're attacked and defeated, in a million battles a day. Being robbed blind (commercial intellectual property/R&D and military intelligence), manipulated and controlled....
