Well done, 6guns! Thanks for sharing. “There is love in me the likes of which you’ve never seen. There is rage in me the likes of which should never escape." —Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

That was outstanding. I will sleep better tonight for it. Anything from Bouree or Heavy Horses? "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." Saw them the first time in late 71 or early 72 for the Thick as a Brick tour--my freshman year of college. And again in 74-ish for the Passion Play tour. Fantastic performances. Big fan. Benefit is one of the best albums of all time--in my opinion. Like all of them through Minstrel in the gallery. Afterwards, certain songs off the remaining albums.

Ran across this the other day. The girl is a little annoying at times, but the flute playing is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKSrq_qjB_Y hope you enjoy "The days are stacked against what we think we are." Jim Harrison

The air above the din |
Talking about Ian's COPD, his voice has always been an interesting subject. He clearly injured his voice in the early-to-mid 80s and it's never been the same (although I still found it quite enjoyable into the early 90s. After that he really seemed to struggle with the upper range.) Anyway - I've always found these two versions of Aqualung to be striking in contrast. The first is from 1977 and he's clearly in top form. The second is from 1984 - the tour where he supposedly ruined his voice. The 1984 version is still awesome in its ragged glory, but the difference is remarkable. Both versions should spin you back down the years a little bit and add some joy to your day regardless! Aqualung, Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play will always be my favorites. You just had to be there. With honorable mentions for Benefit and Warchild. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock "If there's one thing this last week has taught me, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it." Well done! I've been a JT fan since I heard them on the late night radio program out of Little Rock called Bleaker Street. Took a really cute girl on my motorcycle to the JT show in Kansas City in 1972. Such an unlikely formula for success in music or for Ian becoming a rock star. The mould was certainly broken with this guy, such unique creativity. I've heard him claim he never did drugs, anything to that?

Needs a bigger boat |
Met Ian Anderson in Barbados while there on a research ship around 2004 he came down to the ship to get a tour, signed some autographs, was a really nice and genuine guy. Very friendly and down to earth. MOO means NO! Be the comet!

Yep I remember those days. Not all of my 8-Tracks survived. This pic was 10 years ago. Click on pic for full picture "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Partial dichotomy |
That's a great picture and very in line with what my collection looked like at the time. Good stuff! Mike, that must have been a kick to have Ian visit your ship! What I'd give to have been there. My first Tull concert was in 1976; the War Child tour. I wish I'd been able to catch them earlier. Thanks for the positive comments. I'll continue to pick and choose certain Tull songs to learn.

the last time i saw jet hero tull was summer the before last. ian anderson played a smallish kc venue...it was sad, poor ian's wind is gone. he could barely breath out the lyrics. we sadly left after 1/2 the show...hearing him begging his lungs for breath to sing was too hard for my wife and i to take. one of my all time favorite acts....tull was my second concert ever.
