So you got the Sony soundbar? If you only have two HDMI ports then that lends you to using the optical, or buying a switch splitter to run multiple devices via HDMI. I wouldn't do that as it just adds another piece to the system that you don't need, the optical will work well enough for a standard level sound bar. You should have some options on the soundbar to setup the system the way you like using the soundbar, basically a preset equalization such as sports, movie, etc. Find what suits you best. Well it's only a small 2.0 sound bar so it's not going to be earth shattering but should be a noticeable improvement over junky, tinny built in TV speakers. I would also suggest going into TV settings if you can and make sure the internal speakers are not still active and it's all running through the sound bar now. Also the manual will have a section where you can tweak the sound for what you watch, there are usually settings for "TV" and "Movie" and sometimes more where for example on the TV setting the voices are louder than the background sounds and music.

HRK, I got the Amazon Fire sound bar. I think it will suit my purposes and was on Prime Day special. Sound bar, optical cable and taxes, I'm still under $100. PASig, I knew it wouldn't be the best, and it definitely is not, but in my first couple hours of use, voices are clearer and the overall sound seems broader than with just the TV speakers. Noticeable improvements. I'm going to stay with the optical setup for now, and play with the settings to see what more I can get out of it. As I understand it, hooking up to HDMI ARC would switch sound control to the LG remote, and I'm hardly using that anyway, relying mostly on the Roku controller. Again, thanks for everybody's help. Running the optical cable, you should go into the tv and the Audio section, tell it to send sound only through the optical output. This may lock out the TV remotes volume controls since going optical means you have an external audio device with it's own control. On the Firestick I can set the remote to turn on and off the TV, run the sound control to the soundbar, and then of course it will run any app on the stick. You should be able to do that with the Roku as well go into the settings section. You have a simple (the way I like it) setup and if the Roku will control the soundbar, tv and Roku then bob's your uncle.
