It's been real windy last couple days in New Mexico 30-40mph plus strong gusts. The winds have moved into Texas and picked up some power. https://x.com/accuweather/stat...gHrrvd_bL-98_bQ&s=19

Wow, we are supposed to get strong winds tomorrow in northern Illinois, but strong meaning 40-50 not 83 mph.

Just saw someone call it a haboob (which is the Arabic word for dust storm). Why in the fuck are they doing this? First it’s an “atmospheric river” then a “bomb cyclone” now this shit. Just call it what it is! Dust storm, heavy rain, blizzard…when does it stop? /rant "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Definitely one of the windiest days in memory. I can really only think of one day in February a few years ago that compares but today was a little worse than that day. At least the electricity stayed on and it's over now.

Santa Ana winds in southern California have been known to flip trucks. A particularly bad area for this when these winds kick up is near I-15 & I-10 between Fontana & Ontario.

The videos I saw were unreal - zero visibility at times and semis toppling like beach umbrellas. Calling for 50mph gusts and 2" rain in Louisville Sat. Was windy and about 80 today, ain't right for mid March. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Looking at life thru a windshield ![]() |
That video brings back memories of my OTR days, Elk mountain in Wyoming was always an adventure, lots of flipped trucks. Dropping the landing gear was a good idea, what I used to do when in a Tornado area or high wind and no shelter is turn the tractor at a 45 or 90 degree angle. Basically so the truck looked like a 7 and aim the point into the wind. Works great for empty trucks or camping trailers.

I live about 90 miles south of Amarillo. We had 85-90 MPH winds yesterday. Visibility was down to zero at times. My wife and I did not leave the house (no reason to). There were several accidents in the area along with a couple of fires. _________ Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. Henry Ford

I've heard people in the Permian area of TX call it haboob for years. Definitely not a new thing. Our main Permian office was shut down yesterday. Reports from folks out there were saying 60-80mph winds & near 0 visisbility. The Enemy's gate is down.

20+ years ago, I lived in Midland, TX, and had 330 sunny days a year. Unfortunately, many of the nonsunny days were dust storms. It's high dessert plain so not a lot grows there naturally besides mesquite bushes. We had fenced oil & gas facilities north of Midland on the way to Amarillo. Damned tumble weeks would get blown into the fence and then a dust storm would come along which would bury the entire 8' tall fence. I'm an hour west of Fort Worth. I could see, smell and taste the dirt in the air all day, even inside the house. We had a day like that last week as well, had to replace 50 shingles on my roof. I have a few SIGs.

The winds have been nuts around here, too. I've been worried a few times I'd lose some windows, but nothing yet. The greenhouse is still intact, too. I can't say the same for my coworker's. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. Winds are 20 to 25 mph here. It's dry with risk of wildfires. I hope that everyone is safe. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye". The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, pilot and author, lost on mission, July 1944, Med Theatre.

This has sucked. Last week and this week both, this got damn wind. Makes me laugh too. It’s about to be humid and hot as fuck soon, and that will last to October or November. The winter is cold as fuck. And in between in the fall and spring, we either get these ridiculous winds, heavy rain, or both. Weather pretty much sucks year round yet people move here by the millions and drive the cost up, of everything. I drove a little while ago and my windshield had a bunch of sand or dirt all over it. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Super hazy in NW Arkansas today. Supposedly it's from the storms in TX and OK. We had some storms move through last night, and my wind shield is patterned with dusty circles from the rain. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

That last Red Truck looked like he saved his truck. I hope he did. Strong winds like that is scary. We were driving somewhere in Minnesota back in 2018 in 32ft Class C motorhome. The sky suddenly turned dark, heavy clouds came out of nowhere. Our weather handheld scanner started giving out possible tornado warning. I exited at the first freeway exit and found a parking lot. I deployed our 4-corner levelers and used them as stabilizers. We all buckled up and just prayed. I don’t think the tornado came near us. But the wind felt like around 40-50 mph. I can feel one side of the RV lifting up a bit and it was shaking heavily. Felt like we were almost getting off the ground from one side. I don’t want to experience that ever again. _______________________ P228 - West German
