This stuff probably won't work out to well with your schedule but I will throw some stuff out we did last summer. We started from MD and took a little over two weeks driving to Huntington Beach, CA. My favorites on the way out were Charleston SC, Carlsbad NM (Carlsbad Caverns), White Sands NM (Sand dunes), Tucson AZ (Saguaro NP). We stayed in HB for a month, visited Joshua Tree a couple times which was great. You are probably not far from there now. Highlights from the return trip were North Rim Grand Canyon AZ, Zion UT, Bryce UT, Arches UT, Canyonlands UT, Denver CO, Branson MO. Trip was amazing and so glad we were able to do it at 51 after getting laid off. We were just in an SUV and staying at hotels and Air BNB's along the way. Shoot me an email if there is anything I may be able to help with.

^^^ While here we visited Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage. Fascinating and beautiful place where many presidents have held meetings. "Camp David" of the west it's been called. We also took a drive up to Pioneer Town and passed Joshua on the way. Saw many Joshua trees in the area. Had a great lunch at Pappy and Harriet's bar there. Cabot's Pueblo was very interesting in Desert Hot Springs.

Have you ever had a chance to hike the Narrows in Zion? Weather permitting, it’s the most unique hike I’ve ever done. I believe we have several members in the surrounding towns. They gave me great advice on the area several years ago. NRA Patron Member, Instructor and CRSO NC CCH Instructor GRNC Life Member VCDL Member

Thank you Very little |
Starnes BBQ in Paducah, been there since 1955. The place still looks and feels like you're in the 60's and the Pork Sandwich, on toasted white bread wrapped in wax paper is great, get a bottle of their Sauce. Be sure to order a half dozen sandwiches to go great for snacking on the trip LOL Link Will you be going through Kentucky up the WKY Parkway? Lots of historic things to see in Kentucky, including distillery's

I wish I had the time to spend in all of my stops. I'm afraid Zion will just be the highlights provided by the shuttle bus. I hope to go off the beaten path a bit in Bryce. I'll be leaving from Vegas Thursday morning and with the time change, likely will get to Zion mid/late morning. Then Bryce, then up Rt 12 to Richfield for the night. Next day over to Arches and hope to get an earlier entry time there. Went to the show Mystere last night. Those Cirque du Soleil performers are incredible! Unbelievable athleticism and strength. Seeing the Beatles Love show tonight.

I'll be leaving Paducah 10-15 pound heavier sounds like. Burgers and pork sandwiches! From Gatlinburg I'll be traveling north east on 81....I think to Lancaster PA. I've travelled through the distillery region in the past, but never made a tour of them....foolishly. Another item to check off the to-do list in the future.

Sounds like an amazon trip you have planed. Zion is one of my favorite NP's. Been there a few times. Your be visiting before it gets crowded which is best. Not sure if the trolly is running yet or you can drive most of the park. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. ^^^ According to the national park site, the shuttle starts running March 3. Honestly, I'd rather drive myself, but will have to ride the shuttle. Again, wish my time wasn't constrained, but I'll make the best of it. bendable, can't watch that video for some reason.

I was there 2 years ago about the same time. The shuttle wasn't running when we got there but started that weekend. My advice even though this is the off season is get there early especially if its a weekend. We hiked the Narrows and got to the parking lot before sunrise and started the hike as the sun came up. There where 3 cars in that lot. When we finished the lot was full. Granted it's a smaller lot. I have a picture sitting on a car size block of ice with a drysuit on in the Narrows. Bryce is unique with the hoodoos. Plan on some cold weather. When we visited there in March we planed on hiking our last day and then heading back toward Zion and then Vegas. There where calling for snow and we had some when we got up. We decided to head back to Zion early which was the best choice with snow covered roads and a rental car. There are good food spots in Springdale for Zion. There isn't much around Bryce. We did have a great meal at Stone Hearth Grille although it's a bit out of the way. Otherwise we ate ate the restaurant connected to Rudy's Inn which wasn't anything special. Your visiting at what I consider to the the best time. It may be a little chilly but you avoid the insane crowds Zion gets these days. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Right off 81 you'll find Skyline Drive. Never have done the long version to take 3 hrs on 2-lane. You could also take 15 minute break at the scenic overlooks. Shehehdoah NP -Skyline Dr Gettysburg is is impressive if you like Civil War history. It is a bit of a detour from 81 N. Plenty of Amish and Mennonite type tours right in Lancaster. If it's meal time, Shady Maple Smorgasbord is close, and is the largest restaurant in PA, because it is good food (unless you're on a diet). It's 100 yds of buffet, deserts n drinks, no tipping. No adult drinks tho Shady Maple Hershey Park and Chocolate World are also very close as you go north, if it amuses you. If you stay on 81N you'll bypass me, but if you are taking PA TP east, you'll go right past. Stop for a meal if you wish. I was on Skyline Dr as a kid with my parents years ago and have since done bits of it. That would be a good take again on another trip. I thought about getting some Amish meats, sausage and bread while driving through Lancaster. I appreciate the invitation preten2b. By that time I'll be itching to get home, but thank you for your generosity.

Zion was a bust for me. Being spring break for a lot of states, the park was mobbed. No shuttle ride for me, but I did enjoy driving through the park on Rt 89 heading to Bryce. Bryce was fantastic! I can't say enough about these Utah parks and Utah in general. Even driving on Rt 70E to Arches yesterday was one gorgeous view after another. The recommendation to take Rt 12 to Richfield was great! That's one of the most scenic drives I've ever done in my life. Arches! Wow! Blew me away! Made a few short treks out to the sites. Got to see the Windows arches close up and I can't even describe how majestic they are. Then on to Durango where I spent last night. Today off to Taos, Santa Fe tomorrow night. This message has been edited. Last edited by: 6guns,
