Hi all, I have a pair of Cabela's X4 Adventure II Walking Shoes that I've worn for several years. I wear them basically every day, to work and most everything else that requires a casual, good-looking shoe. They are waterproof, rugged, and have great support. I need a new pair since these are wearing out, and it looks like they no longer make them. So I'm looking for a new alternative. What do you suggest? Waterproof isn't mandatory, but nice to have. I have narrow feet, so that is a special consideration. Nothing that runs wide. Below is a picture of my current shoes as a reference for the style I'm looking for. Sort of a cross between a hiking shoe and a casual walking shoe. Thanks for any help you can provide! Chris

2 years is way too long to wear that type of shoe and you shouldn't wear that type of shoe every day, you should have 2 pairs and alternate them each day. That being said, shoes are very subjective to the persons foot and have to be tried on. If you really like the Cabela's ones, buy another pair. I like Nike's for walking shoes and generally go with a cross trainer.

I really like New Balance, and look for a number higher than 800. The high end New Balance are made in the USA. They are recommended by many foot Dr. _______________________________ 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but > because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Another vote for New Balance. I have never been disappointed with them. Rockports are good too. ... stirred anti-clockwise.

New Balance if brown leather isn't required. Rockport probably has something. Ecco would be good for a slightly more stylish approach. Personally, I like Merrell for something like that. Check out the Jungle Moc or Moab. I like the Moab Ventilator for lightweight hiking. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Rockports, made in Vietnam were great. They were lightweight and comfortable, but Rockports are now made in India and junk IMO. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

I spent over eight years in the running shoe business. Walking/hiking shoes are similar, although not the same. Fit and comfort are the most important considerations. When I saw your photo, two brands came to mind: Merrell and Vasque. I have pairs from both (because I don't always run). The Vasque are pricey, but many consider them the Rolls-Royce of hiking shoes. Merrell makes tons of different styles. I'm lucky because there's a Merrell outlet not far from me. For the money, I've never been disappointed, and I have three pair. If you have one nearby, you might also consider G. H. Bass. The company is perhaps best-known for its Weejuns® penny loafers. When I was in high school, you wore Weejuns® or you weren't "cool." There's a G. H. Bass in the same center as the Merrell shop, and I recently bought a pair of brown leather, waterproof mid-tops. They're nice, too. You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member

Try the Solomon shoes. They are the best I have found. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . I bought some Merrels last year from the exchange at Ft Hood last year...wish I’d have found these things a decade ago. I’m six two and have a 10 1/2 foot that’s narrow. The merrels fit perfectly. I have experienced good luck with both New Balance and Merrell. I do also have narrow feet.

I wear my XA PRO 3D every day. Also got a new brand I heard about which are on your feet for hours a day comfortable: simpleshoes. The insoles are the key. The one I got off ebay looked like a low cut chuck taylor, but way more comfortable. This message has been edited. Last edited by: f2,

Like fphuan I have three sets of Merrill’s I use for everyday walking around and have a pair of Vasque’s for my dedicated hiking/backpacking boot. I will say that figment is more important than everything else. Based on my wife’s association with the company Fleet Feet I went to one of their stores to get fitted for sneakers. Ended up getting a pair of Saucony’s and they are amazingly comfortable.. ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

An outside the box recommendation, Xero shoes. For everyday walking around I love these, super comfortable with the side benefit of developing strong feet, better balance, and strengthening your achilles. Note, I am also not a "minimalist" runner/walks around barefoot everyday type. I have numerous pairs of Hoka brand running shoes which have max cushion. https://xeroshoes.com/shop/terraflex/terraflex-men/ I bought a pair for my wife and she wears hers all the time as well. “People have to really suffer before they can risk doing what they love.” –Chuck Palahnuik Be harder to kill: https://preparefit.ck.page

Another narrow footed vote for New Balance.

There are variations in the footbed of shoes. For any given person some brands will fit better than others. In my case, New Balance is the most comfortable for lighter weight shoes. Solomon hiking boots feel the best on my feet. I also have Keen shoes and sandals, they are quite possibly the dorkiest looking but also quite comfortable. Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?
