italiaDick’s Sporting Goods Chairman considers Field & Stream closure
Article Link Ed Stack, Dick’s Sporting Goods Chairman and CEO: has revealed the company may close its Field & Stream subsidiary.
US retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods has told investors that damage done to sales by its gun control stance may result in it closing its outdoor subsidiary, Field & Stream.
The Fortune 500 company could close down the entire Field & Stream chain of 25 stores across 18 states.
Company Chairman and CEO Ed Stack said the recent 3.9% drop in same-store sales was a consequence in part of the decision to change its gun sales policies. It ‘negatively affected’ the bottom line, revealed Stack. However, he added that the company did not regret the move to change a number of its gun sales policies and back new gun-control legislation.
“It’s definitely a factor, but nothing we didn’t anticipate,” said Stack, at last week’s Goldman Sachs Retailing Conference.
Dick’s, which has an estimated 10% of the fishing retail market in the US, first modified its gun sales policy in the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting, when it said it would no longer sell certain semi-automatic rifles.
The chain again pledged to stop selling AR-15s and other semi-automatics after the Parkland incident earlier this year.
The company also decided to hire its own gun-control lobbyists to push for stricter gun laws.
Stack said Dick’s would assess the situation through the holiday season. “Some brands are not going to sell to us. If consumers are upset with us, we will make a decision about what we’re going to do with Field & Stream.”

Oy.
The executives in that company need to be thrown out on their asses by the stockholders.
They're in business to make money. Period.
To make a decision that alienates a large portion of their customer base, loses the company a significant amount of money, and results in having to shrink their stores, plus piss away another significant amount of the company's money on lobbyists, and then claim that they
"don't regret it" shows a ridiculous lack of business sense from the top down.

lymanthose jobs are more political (as in internal politics) than smart business decisions,
only people that will suffer is the employees,
the CEO will keep on keeping on, until he moves to another company, or retires very wealthy

For consistency sake, I'm thinking they should probably stop selling footballs too. I mean with all the info on concussions, etc coming out how can they promote such a violent and harmful sport? How about hockey pucks? Etc.

Yeah, they didn’t want those old Field and Stream stores anyway. They probably anticipated the nearly 4% drop in sales too, and in preparation for that they...? Well, what exactly
did they do, since they “anticipated” customer negative reaction and all.

We bought them... because we anticipated shutting them down...
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

limblessbiffI went into a field&stream store nearby recently for the first time since this all started and was pleased to see that on a Saturday too, that the store seemed nearly empty and nobody at all in the gun section. I got a kick out it and left

shovelheadDick's might want to rethink their policy on sports equipment. Running shoes can lead to future joint injury. And aimed projectiles like balls and hockey pucks can cause injury. Not to mention golf clubs and bats.
Maybe they need to branch out into gaming consoles.

fpuhanThere's nothing I can get at Dick's that I can't get somewhere else. Cheaper.
You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

Dusty78I’m sure selling $650 glock 19’s in F&S stores has nothing to do with the drop in sales

Oz_ShadowHave not been in one since their stupid changes started. Sucks because the Field and Stream store had just started selling Palmetto State Armory components. It was nice being able to get a stripped lower without a transfer fee.
