I had one back one 2001, the first year GL1800, and enjoyed traveling with my wife on it for 4 years until it was too difficult for her. I then sold it but always thought with out the trunk the platform could make a cool heavy weight, solo tourer. When the FB6 came out but w/o cruise and a couple other niceties I wasn't really in the market.
In 2019 I test rode the latest generation and was impressed with the improved suspension, additional rider room, and sleeker styling and again thought "maybe one day". Last week when I stopped in the local dealership there was a 2022 Goldwing on the floor,(non tour version) so without the trunk. Long story short we did some dickering and trading and I took it home. It's a DCT version and while I've owned two other Honda's with DCT the one in this new Goldwing is the nicest one IMO. In the week I've ridden it I've spent probably 1/2 in auto Tour mode and 1/2 in quick shift manual because both work well.
I've already added a center stand, have a low rear luggage rack on order, and I think that's about it. The obligatory pic.

Hell yeah, that's a sweet ride.
I test rode a GW many years ago, this was probably in the early 90s.
Didn't buy it, but loved the ride.
Smooth, tons of power and felt like a magic carpet.

Have fun with your new bike Cool

Beautiful!! My last two bikes were sport tourers, a Kawasaki Concourse and then a Suzuki GSX1100G, that's where the last half of my username came from. Never owned a GW, but that is one sexy ride! I'm jelly!

Thanks guys!
Compared to two of my previous touring Honda's, 1998 ST1100 and 2001 GL1800, this one is sort of half way between the two, probably closer to an ST1100 which suits me well.

I will say though that I'm not a fan of matte paint.

Congrats! I think you’ll need to enlarge your garage. Smile
That flat six is one neat engine. I’m wondering if it’s used in any experimental aircraft.

That thing looks brawney! Hardly any resemblance to my 1978 GL1000 with a Vetter Windjammer.

I’ve retired from riding…

But in all my bikes I have owned, I miss my wing the most.

Enjoy!

Congrats ridewv, She is Gorgeous.
I've lusted after a Goldwing for years.
I learned a long time ago that there is no perfect do-all motorcycle. That's why we must own more than one, right? Smile
For what it's designed for, I can't think of a bike I'd rather have. Enjoy and stay safe.

tator what else is on your list?

Pipe I traded two bikes in on this so I've actually gained a bit of space.
I don't know? Are opposed engines popular in aircraft? If so I'd think s BMW air cooled twin would work (in a light plane), what about Subaru motors?

You're right sigcrazy, even incorporating a lot of plastic and aluminum it's a big, heavy motorcycle. But with its flat engine and gas down low under the seat the low COG gives it a lighter feel than one would think for a 805#, 67" wheelbase motorcycle. The more popular Tour version with the 40# (empty) trunk up high and rearward definitely feels a little more top heavy. But if you carry a passenger it's so comfortable for them.

Cross, LOL no trailer, stuffed animal on the back, or "Ride to eat, eat to ride" sticker.

Thanks Patriot I hope to enjoy it. If I didn't live alone with two pets I'd be out riding all over the country. As it is now every time I want to get away I have to recruit my friend or son, both who live 25 miles away, to host the dog and drive 25 miles to tend the cat. I hate to impose on them much so I only get a few 4-7 day rides in a season. Frown
Have you considered a small motorcycle or scooter? That's what I plan on moving to when these big bikes become too difficult to handle.

I want a bagger/tourer. Top 3:
  • Bmw K1600
  • Goldwing
  • Indian Chieftain

Ideally, this fall I’ll rent a few on Twisted Road and make up my mind

Opposed air-cooled engines from Lycoming and Continental dominate the General Aviation piston-power market. These engines are used by the major manufacturers of light airplanes: BeechCraft, Cessna, Cirrus, Piper, Mooney, (I'm probably forgetting one or two).

This type engine has a lot of redundancy -- dual ignition systems (two spark plugs per cylinder, with two separate sources feeding the plugs), typically have two fuel pumps, carbureted engines have pilot-controlled carburetor heat, etc.

BMW manufactured airplane engines during the first half of the 20th century. When they were banned from producing airplane engines, they started making motorcycles.

    ....and later yet cars.

I don't know how many times I've recanted the above to people who have come up and said "that's a BMW? I didn't know BMW made motorcycles?"

Then I explain BMW actually stands for Bayerische Motorrad Werke. Smile

Very nice, if you don't like the matte, a couple of waxing will take care of it LOL

I've ridden them, had one loaned for a month by a friend that wouldn't ride his after it fell on him in the driveway and he was stuck under it for a few hours until someone came by and got it off of him, then endured back surgery.

Never got used to the mid controls, probably because I'm used to the HD FL control position

DCT is interesting, haven't ridden a bike with it.

Great bike ridewv. Was on my short list but I ended up with a beautiful '22 Police Road King. I do most of my own maintenance and the tediousness of the fairing removal is what kept me from hopping on the wing. If ever I win the lotto and can have someone else do the required maintenance, I'll have one for sure!

tatortodd: Those BMW K1600's are phenomenal machines too. I test rode one a while back and let me tell you, it will power wheelie if you want it too Eek .
