I think something ignited underneath the flooring at the 1:27 mark. Either a basement or a floor below the range. You can see the seams of the floorboards light up right before the fire.

It looked like they used planks, perhaps rubber, on the first part of the floor. Then the fire started from between the planks where the gunpowder would have accumulated after sweeping.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I wonder what those shotguns were shooting; they had nearly no perceived recoil.

Yep. I wonder how often they were sweeping it clear. I have no idea how much accumulation it would take to do that, but evidently it wasn’t properly looked after.

the rounds we used at my dept were "LOW RECOIL" made by Federal.

I took a few apart with one of the firearms instructors and they just appeared to be birdloads with a slug in them....they were accurate out to 75 yards on a B28 target

There was a fire at a range near my house about ten years ago. The best guess was that unburnt powder that accumulated in the acoustic ceiling tiles and wall tiles ignited. The owner said it went up very, very quickly. I bet it was a lot like that video. No one was hurt, but the building was a loss, except for the cinderblock walls.

Probably rubber buckshot/rubber slugs. I've shot rubber buckshot, and there is no recoil at all. There is also a lot of unburned powder that exits the bore. I've see this type of thing at a range before. With all of the unburned powder that exits the bore of a gun accumulates on the floor, when the brass gets swept, the unburned powder settles in the cracks of the concrete. All it takes is a grain of powder still burning to hit the crack, and all the powder burns. In the video, it looks like a wood plank floor---lots of room between the planks for powder to accumulate.

While not quite that bad, similar thing happened last year while I was at an indoor range.

The unburnt powder built up on the floor in the cracks of the flooring tiles/pads and poof.
Luckily it was relatively minor (put out with handheld extinguisher), but made for an interesting afternoon.

It appears to be a flash fire. Powder residue ignited due to a spark.

Range where I used to live (and shot often for about a year) had one of these. They had pretty bad ventilation right as I was wrapping up my year membership.

About a year later they had a flash fire; nobody killed but 2 injured with burns / smoke inhalation, lots of damage too.

Happens from time to time. Epping PD has responded to one or two minor ones here. No damage. That's even after the maintenance that they do which is never ending.
