Yes you can. I travel often with a lot of cash (for business) and a nice watch, the watch stays on my arm, my wallet in my hand. They manually check both after I go through the booth. Everything else goes into the bin. A lot of people don’t know this like the idiot with $9k in cash that’s the subject of this thread.
Well then TSA rules must differ. I have been stopped twice in the last month from keeping paper in my hands during the bosh scanner. Here in Charlotte and in Vegas. As for a watch I always keep it on my wrist. There’s times I travel with nothing...not even a backpack.

No clue...
The cash isn't the TSA's business. When I travel, my wallet, cash, phone and wrist watch go into a special pocket in my carry-on and not dropped in an open tray or bowl. The latter just invites sticky hands and wandering eyes. There's nothing about money that requires special screening or transparency to TSA.
^^ THIS ^^
Cash isn’t dense (less dense than having a book) and doesn’t cause an alarm. Cheese, fudge, swing weight donut for golf (that Christmas stocking stuffer packed next to charger cables got TSA’s attention), and other dense items cause problems.
Only thing special about csh when traveling is if it’s international travel as I previously posted.

.
I put whatever things are in my pockets including my watch and phone in a special (separate) pocket in a bag I'm going through. It doesn't take genius to understand stuff out in the open in those bins are ripe for the picking. I try to keep my eye on my bags as I go through security until I retrieve them.

BlackAgnesThe other risk is that a large amount of cash like that is apt to be seized by law enforcement under Seizure and Forfeiture laws.
You do not have to be arrested or charged with a crime for this to occur.
The burden of proof is on YOU to prove the money is not the fruit of a criminal enterprise since the seizure is a CIVIL action.
If you search this subject, you will find all kinds of examples where honest people have had their cash seized and played holy hell trying to get it back.
