JWFHow do you count hummingbirds?
My typical count has been 4-5 birds for the summer. Today I am watching at least 10 if not more birds on my feeders, more than I have ever seen. It is like WW2 European Theater aerial combat on my deck. With them zipping around it is almost impossible to get an accurate count. Here the fall migration starts in mid August, I will miss them when they head to Mexico.
I had to buy more feeders this week just to provide space for the hungry hoard.
Just another day in paradise.

9x18Either with several people , each watching a feeder then yell .now!
Or take photos and try counting.
My peak was mid-August but still have a few.

VanwallJust one at a time on our feeders. Sometimes a bird will land on a nearby branch and guard “his” feeder.
I have never seen more than one on the feeder.

(Actually, I don't have any hummingbirds--I don't have a feeder, and my feral cats pretty much keep my yard free of birds....)

GeorgeairThey wouldn't be so damn hungry if they'd just chill instead of constantly fighting.

fischtown7If you ever find a way please post. My mom has at best guess 20-30 I managed to count 12 at her 4 feeders and like you said the rest were dogfighting. They refill 4 standard feeders twice a day.

Mars_AttacksI have 6 regulars that come to my feeders.
I keep one of my security cameras pointed at two of the feeders so I can watch them from work.
