Initial efforts have proven I need help getting it all in service.

Was gifted the unit by family member.
Seems like a good idea if I can get it running.

Watched a few tutorials several months ago & will
need to hire someone I guess. Any tips?

I do but have had it running for a couple of years and don’t remember all the steps that well. I do believe you need to have a second hand unit “reset” before being able to start a new service but I don’t recall the entire process being too difficult and I am pretty technically challenged... open an account, hook unit to computer via the cable and sync, download the garmin earthmate app on your phone, connect to the unit via Bluetooth and your off and running. What kind of trouble are you having? Have you tried garmin tech support?

I have the larger unit with the map screen and it is not at all intuitive. Garmin uses a lot of their own jargon. It is the opposite of an Apple product experience.

There are 2 websites, one is the main Garmin where you have an account. The other is the map that you can share with others.

Be sure you are outside so it can see the satellites. I don't remember the whole activation process but it did need to communicate back and forth.

I have no knowledge about the InReach. However, I have a fair amount of experience with other Garmin devices, and I have had to get help from their support people.

Every one of the Garman support folks I have interacted with was U.S.A. based, knowledgable, helpful, and stuck with it until my problem was solved. Once it took some escalation to engineering department, but Garmin came through and got everything squared away.

I suggest that you check the support page on the Garmin website to get started. You'll probably find a "Chat" option (that's what I generally use), and / or a telephone number for support.

3)Follow the on-screen instructions.

4)When prompted, go outdoors to an open area with a clear view of the sky.

Thanks. I'm going into 'set up mode' this week end & will give all this a whirl.
